The New England Patriots are shaping up to be a true contender for the AFC East with a couple of sensational back-to-back wins. The Patriots, who have been on the down low after the exit of Tom Brady, are now 4-2 in the ongoing season, sitting right above the Buffalo Bills in their division.
The Patriots are led by Drake Maye, a second-year quarterback, who made his presence known on the national stage with a win against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5. The UNC alum made similar waves when he continued his form against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
In six games, Maye has thrown for 1,522 yards and ten touchdowns and two interceptions. He has averaged 8.5 yards per throw and boasts a completion rate of 73.2, second-best in the league behind the Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff.
The win against the Saints added another feather to his accolades. Drake Maye joined the exclusive list of quarterbacks with five or more straight games with 200+ passing yards and a passer rating above 100 under the age of 24. The list includes the Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes with seven consecutive games and the former Miami Dolphins signal-caller, Dan Marino.

Maye has thrown more than 200 yards in all six of his games this season, while his passer rating dipped below 100 in the first game, the loss against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Patriots’ young quarterback can ideally match or even surpass Marino and Mahomes. They play against the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns in the next two weeks.
The Titans and the Browns are both struggling to have a grasp on the dynamics of the current season. They are both ranked last in their respective divisions. If Maye remains injury-free and continues to play at his current form, he could tie Mahomes with seven straight games with 200+ passing yards and 100+ passer rating. Surpassing him would be a bit of a task, as the Patriots lock horns with the Atlanta Falcons after the two teams mentioned earlier.
Drake Maye among the leaders in the MVP buzz of the season
Drake Maye continued his impressive breakout campaign in his second NFL season, delivering a standout performance in Sunday’s 25–19 victory over the New Orleans Saints. The young quarterback threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns. It was his second-best performance in terms of the passer rating.

As Maye’s consistent play propels him up the NFL leaderboards, his name has begun to surface in the ongoing MVP conversation as well. However, during a Monday interview on WEEI Afternoons, Maye was quick to temper such speculation. He put the emphasis on his focus on team success over individual accolades.
Oh shoot. Nah, I’ve got a lot of work to do. I think that’s a long way away. Getting some more wins is what I’m focused on.
Drake Maye said
Despite his modesty, the betting markets suggest otherwise. As of Monday, Maye was tied with Matthew Stafford for the sixth-shortest odds (+1600) to win the NFL MVP award, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
His numbers support this growing recognition. Maye currently ranks second in completion percentage (73.2), fourth in yards per attempt (8.5), and fourth in quarterback rating (112.5) through six games. Notably, he surpasses established stars such as Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Baker Mayfield in each of these key categories. He has already beaten Allen once, and he is touted to surpass Mayfield in the upcoming month.
