Matthew Stafford is no longer the favorite to win the 2025 NFL MVP trophy. Stafford lost his place to Drake Maye following another game-winning performance for the New England Patriots.
Maye threw for 282 yards, 2 touchdowns, and zero interceptions on 24 completions (77%) in the Patriots’ week 13 victory over the New York Giants. It was Maye’s tenth consecutive game throwing 200+ passing yards, fewer than 1 interception per game, positive yardage on the ground, and 8.00+ yards per throw. According to OptaStats, Maye is the only quarterback in NFL history with those numbers.
Additionally, Maye has achieved an 80+ passer rating in each of the last ten games. According to ESPN research, Maye is the second player since Hall of Famer Dan Marino with those absurd stats.

It comes as no surprise that the 2024 first-round pick is currently the favorite as per Draftkings’ odds to become the 2025 NFL MVP.
- Drake Maye: -130
- Matthew Stafford (Los Angeles Rams QB): +120
- Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys QB): +1400
- Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers QB): +1800
- Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills QB): +2500
- Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears QB): +6000
Why is Drake Maye the frontrunner to become the 2025 NFL MVP?
Stafford fell off due to a rare bad outing for the Rams. The veteran signal caller threw 2 interceptions (his first pick since Week 3) and fumbled the ball once in the Week 13 defeat to the Carolina Panthers.

Meanwhile, Prescott is on the rise. He contributed 9 touchdowns in the Cowboys’ three straight wins against the Raiders, Eagles, and Chiefs. He ranks second with 3261 passing yards from 12 games. The only reason he’s not ranked higher on the list is that the Cowboys are 6-5-1.
Jordan Love is having another great year. The Packers are 8-3-1, and he has thrown 19 TDs to just 3 interceptions.
Josh Allen is the reigning NFL MVP, but he briefly lost momentum as the Bills lost winnable games against the Texans and the Dolphins. In the Texans game, Allen was sacked 8 times. He made a solid comeback with a 2-touchdown outing against the Steelers. In that game, he overtook Cam Newton‘s rushing touchdown record after scoring his 76th career TD on the ground.
This leaves Caleb Williams, the surprise package of 2025. Hardly anyone expected a second-year QB with the help of a rookie head coach to be in the mix to win the league’s best player. Williams’ numbers have been above average. He has completed 58% of his passes for 17 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
The primary reason Williams is even in the discussion is the Bears’ position in the NFC. After defeating the Philadelphia Eagles in their latest game, the Bears are now the NFC number one seed for the first time since 2006, when they played in the Super Bowl.
Interestingly, both the Patriots and the Bears are being led by quarterbacks under 25 for the first time since NFL seeding started in 1975.
The Patriots are currently the No. 1 seed in the AFC behind Drake Maye (23).

These two have to qualify for the Super Bowl in order to play against each other. Williams has never played against Maye in the NFL, but has faced Jayden Daniels, who was drafted in the same year as him and Maye.
