Serena Williams‘ performance at the Super Bowl LIX made headlines as she crip walked to Kendrick Lamar‘s Drake diss track ‘Not Like Us’ during the halftime show. Drake, whose feud with Lamar is well known, has a history with Williams as well as they reportedly dated each other.

She received widespread praise for her cameo, but certainly not from the Canadian rapper. In the wake of the performance, many had expected that Drake would fire back at Lamar, but he took to social media and shared a picture of him embracing Williams’ former agent Jill Smoller.

Drake previously referenced Williams in his 2013 song ‘Worst Behavior’ with his ‘I swear I could beat Serena when she playin’ with her left’, and in his 2022 song ‘Middle of the Ocean’ with his ‘Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie’. The rapper took a massive jibe at Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian.

Lamar voiced his support for Williams in his diss track ‘Not Like Us’ as he asked Drake ‘better not speak on Serena’. Williams had also ridiculed Drake in last year’s ESPYs.

Not everyone, however, was impressed with Williams’ Super Bowl performance. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith claimed that if he were Williams’ husband, he would divorce her for ‘trolling her ex’ in the showpiece event.

Andy Roddick reveals son’s reactions to Serena Williams’ crip walk

Serena Williams was lauded by notable names from the tennis community for her performance at the Super Bowl. The likes of Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff, and Carlos Alcaraz, among many others, took to their respective social media accounts to react to her crip walk. Williams’ compatriot Andy Roddick too enjoyed the cameo as he revealed how he and his son Hank reacted.

All of a sudden I’m watching and I’m a massive Kendrick Lamar fan, right? Our son knows the lyrics to Kendrick Lamar. Brooklyn [Roddick’s wife] was into the beef from the word go. So we’re into it anyways and then it flashes to Serena dancing and we both go, ‘Oooooohhhh!!!’

Andy Roddick said on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast

Roddick, last year, had used the phrase ‘not like us’ to talk about Djokovic’s recovery from the injury he suffered during the French Open, which forced him to withdraw from his quarterfinal clash with Casper Ruud. Djokovic had torn his meniscus owing to which he underwent surgery.

But he quickly recovered to participate at Wimbledon. Roddick was criticized by Djokovic fans, but the American later clarified that he actually used Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ to praise the Serb for his being ‘different’ from the rest of the tennis players.
