The Toronto-born rapper Drake recently released his website, which has his archival footage and unreleased songs. The fans went digging and found out that Drake’s Too Good, in collaboration with Rihanna, was inspired by tennis legend Serena Williams. The newfound information was a little surprising since the pair was rumored to be dating back in 2011.
The rapper and Serena Williams would attend each other’s field of work and publicly support each other. After they garnered some attention, the duo reportedly got cozy at a Cincinnati restaurant during a romantic dinner. However, the speculations remained just that. The pair moved on to different paths. Later, it was brought into the spotlight again in 2016 when Drake released the song.
In the aforementioned clip, Drake was sitting in his studio with his mother, Sandi Graham, when the song was played. The duo began discussing the track. Graham stated that Drake’s music was very light and that he did not get heavily into things. Drake disagreed, putting forth his argument for the song.
No, I get heavy on a couple joints, but this is more about me and Serena.Drake to his mother via archivial footage on his website
There was no surety when the clip was taken. Nevertheless, the conversation dates back to 2016, when the song was released. The clip went viral on social media, with fans trying to put two and two together. After all, Williams and Drake are no newly formed acquaintances.
Aftermaths- Drake, Serena Williams, Kendrick Lamar
Back in the day, the rumors did not just stop at dating for the couple. Allegedly they were rumored to be engaged at one point. However, the romance between Drake and Williams abruptly ended – or so it looked to the fans. Drake moved on to dating other women, and Serena Williams settled down with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017. Williams and Ohanian are parents to daughters Alexis Olympia and Adira.
Drake has mentioned Serena Williams in a couple of his songs. Not long back, the rapper mentioned Williams and dissed Alexis Ohanian in one of his raps, calling him a “groupie.” Ohanian wasn’t having it when he took to X and posted a picture of himself with his daughter in one of Williams’ matches with a sly caption. He retorted that he was the best at being a groupie for his wife and daughter.
Another thing Drake got much headlines about was his feud with Kendrick Lamar. Both wrote diss tracks about each other, but Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us broke the charts. The popular song came in defense of Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian.
The rapper issued a serious warning to Drake not to speak about Williams. The tennis star also did not lag behind as she took a jab at him at the 2024 ESPY Awards by poking fun at him for taking it up with Lamar. As such, the saga may not have ended after all.
