Draymond Green BAFFLED as Suns’ brass claims Kevin Durant has ‘never been maximized’
Kevin Durant’s maximum potential yet to be unlocked according to Suns’ GM.
Draymond Green and Kevin Durant
Draymond Green on a recent episode of his podcast revealed his disappointment, after James Jones, the Phoenix Suns general manager remarked on his player and former Golden State Warriors champ Kevin Durant. The Suns GM had said no team had figured out how to get the best out of the two-time NBA champion and his franchise would be the first to.
That comment had a sour taste on the veteran forward Draymond Green when he spoke on his podcast. Green recalled that Jones was on the roster of the Cleveland Cavaliers that lost to KD and the Dubs in the 2017 NBA Finals. He went further to say that the Warriors were able to maximize the talents of Kevin Durant.
I was baffled when I watched James Jones make this comment… James Jones was on a team in 2017 that lost in the NBA Finals to Kevin Durant. And Kevin Durant averaged 35 (points), eight rebounds, and five assists on 55 percent from the field, 47 percent from three, 93 percent shooting. And when you got your a** bust like the Cavs got their a** bust, I have a hard time believing that James Jones could then come out and say ‘no one has been able to maximize Kevin Durant’.Draymond Green said
Furthermore, he then criticized the playing style of the Phoenix Suns which he believed wasn’t to the strengths of KD. While he has his points as Durant with the Phoenix Suns isn’t as lethal as the Durant who led the Warriors to back-to-back NBA championships as it would always be remembered as the greatest moment of his career.
However, despite his past successes, the Suns’ GM has refused to change his mindset about whether KD has ever played to his maximum potential. And with the Sun’s suffering a clean sweep by the Minnesota Timberwolves a lot would be said about his choice of words.
NBA insider advocates for the Phoenix Suns to trade Kevin Durant to the Oklahoma City Thunder
Tim MacMahon of ESPN made a bold suggestion when he said the Phoenix Suns should let go of veteran guard Kevin Durant if they were to speed up their rebuild process after a sad end to their season. He went further to suggest a reunion between KD and the Oklahoma City Thunder, an issue many OKC Thunder fans would frown at.
I think the best way out for the Suns… would be to trade Kevin Durant. There would still be plenty of interest in Kevin Durant. My first phone call probably would be to his original home. I don’t know what Oklahoma City’s interest would be, but I could convince myself he would be one hell of a fit there and it wouldn’t be about the players you’re getting back, but obviously the picks in that case.Tim MacMahon said to AZ Central
While from the basketball point of view, the idea appears sumptuous, the operations view isn’t as the Thunders would have to risk a lot to recruit a player of his status as well as ruin the balance in their team.
However, the idea of merging Kevin Durant and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would bring fear to most teams in the league. However, a lot can happen between now and the start of next season, so fingers crossed.
