Draymond Green has had a tough week, dealing with the loss of Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks and Chris Paul to the San Antonio Spurs. Despite their past rivalry, Green and Paul became close during Paul’s one-year stint with the Warriors. Green expressed his sadness about Paul’s departure on his podcast recently.

Green praised Chris Paul as one of the best teammates he’s ever had and was looking forward to seeing him finish his career with the Warriors. However, following his exit, he’s excited to see Paul play with Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio, calling it a “genius move” by the Spurs.

Another one I'm really sad about is CP. I know it's been very documented on like, how we hated each other. I am very sad to know that he is leaving this team because in my head I'm thinking, 'Man, C is going to end up finishing his career here and that will be dope.' CP with [Popovich], who's still a genius. Pairing CP with Wemby to teach that young fella. CP one of the greatest vets I've ever been around.

Green believes Paul will be a great mentor for Wembanyama and other young players on the team. He also praised Paul’s veteran leadership and the impact he had on the Warriors during his time with the team.

Despite his sadness about Paul’s departure, Green is looking forward to seeing him succeed in San Antonio. The Spurs may not be a top contender next season, but with Paul and Wembanyama, they’ll be an intriguing team to watch.

Spurs strike gold with Chris Paul signing, expect big things from Victor Wembanyama

The San Antonio Spurs made a significant move in free agency by signing Chris Paul to a one-year, $11 million deal. Paul, a future Hall of Famer, will mentor rookie Stephon Castle and play alongside Wemby, who is coming off an impressive freshman season.

Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer is high on the signing, predicting that Wembanyama will thrive with Paul’s guidance. Wembanyama, who has never played with an elite point guard, exceeded expectations last season, as he averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and a league-leading 3.6 blocks per game.

With Paul’s arrival, the Spurs hope to unlock Wembanyama’s full potential and help him achieve All-Star and All-NBA status. Paul, despite nearing the end of his career, still has a lot to offer and will be a valuable asset to the team.
