The Golden State Warriors were reportedly in discussions with the Los Angeles Clippers for a trade deal regarding Paul George. However, a move did not materialize, with George opting to sign for the Philadelphia 76ers instead. Notably, Warriors Draymond Green did not seem happy with the Clippers not allowing George to move to the Warriors and shared his views on his show.
There have been contradictory stories about what the Warriors offered and did not provide during those negotiations with the Clippers. However, in the most recent episode of his podcast, Draymond Green criticized the Clippers for failing to reach an agreement. Green claimed that Geroge wanted to come to the Warriors but the Clippers did not play “ball.”
Paul George was gonna come to the Warriors. We wanted Paul George to come to the Warriors… The Clippers didn’t really want to play ball. Didn’t want to help him get to where he wanted to go, so in turn they get nothing back.Draymond Green said on his show
It’s interesting to note that Green was hell-bent on claiming that George wanted to come to the Warriors on his podcast.
On the contrary, George has already left the Clippers, signing with the Eastern Conference’s Philadelphia 76ers. After allegedly agreeing to a four-year, $212 million contract, George will team up with former MVP Joel Embiid and another star in Tyrese Maxey in Philadelphia to form a new big three.
Paul George’s addition to the 76ers makes them NBA Title contenders for the 2024-25 season
According to numerous sources, Paul George signed a $212 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2024-25 NBA season. This contract will be a significant lift for Sixers fans and teammates, especially since George just had an excellent individual year with the Clippers. The 76ers intend to challenge the reigning NBA champions, Boston Celtics for the the title, and George’s signing gives the team more stability.
Being 34 years old, George is yet one of the league’s top two-way players. During his final campaign with the Los Angeles Clippers, he averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 47.1% from the field and a career-best 41.3% from three.
It’s worth noting that George, along with Embiid on the court and Maxey at point guard, forms one of the NBA’s most formidable big threes, albeit his health remains a concern. George had not played more than 56 games throughout any of his prior 4 seasons, despite playing 74 in 2023-24. It will be intriguing to watch how George and his new teammates perform in the upcoming NBA season.
