Draymond Green recently made some claims about Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks. After facing backlash for it, Green defended his previous statement, claiming Brunson could not lead the Knicks to an NBA title. The Golden State Warriors star emphasized that he wasn’t a Knicks hater as he deemed himself an honest observer.

Furthermore, he also clarified that all he meant was that the New York Knicks can’t go beyond the Eastern Conference Finals. The Knicks are predicted to win their second-round tie against the Indiana Pacers. But doubts remain about whether they can reach what he called the “Promised Land.”

Draymond Green went on to express his admiration and respect for Jalen Brunson. The Warriors star commended his ability to bounce back from bad outings and lead the Knicks despite injuries suffered by his teammates.

Brunson, in the regular season, averaged 28.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists while improving his output for the playoffs with averages of 35.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game. 

However, the four-time NBA champion and Golden State Warriors veteran’s remarks have ignited a flurry of debate among the Knicks’ passionate fanbase. This would be a challenge to the best player in the East, Brunson, who has had to prove himself over and over again in a league as demanding as the NBA. 

What did Draymond Green say in the first place?

The Knicks were on the verge of eliminating the Philadelphia 76ers when Draymond Green took to his podcast to praise Brunson’s skills. However, he also raised serious doubts about Brunson’s abilities as the best player on a championship-winning team. 

The conundrum that I've been kinda caught in and dealing with on Jalen Brunson - jury is still out. Again, I got nothing but love and respect for Jalen Brunson, and love his game and respect his game, but I’m talking about to go to the promised land. His comments had ignited controversy among the Knick fans. Soon, they pushed back as expected. Despite his reservations about Brunson, Green still emphasized the need to give him his flowers. The post on popular social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) instantly went viral, and one thing is certain: it would spur Brunson up.

The Knicks face the Indiana Pacers for a place in the Eastern Conference Finals and remain one playoff series win away from entering the Conference Finals after decades of never reaching it.
