During the offseason, Draymond Green did what he usually does. That is to spend time with his family, and with Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and the rest of their group of friends.
He also knew that once they both entered the 2025-26 season, they would have to put their bond to the side and compete against each other.
Both the Lakers and Warriors were in championship-winning mode, which meant that the stakes would be high every time they battled. After all, both are in the hotly contested Western Conference, which means they do not have a game to relax.
Fast forward to now, at the mid-point of the season, and the futures of both the four-time champions are at stake. LeBron James might stick around in Los Angeles until the end of this campaign, but beyond that, it is doubtful.
Draymond Green, too, has suddenly seen himself in trade conversations once the Golden State Warriors started to work on trade packages for Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, the Milwaukee Bucks might not be his last stop.
If he were traded, his plan would not be to remain in Milwaukee. He would want to be moved on… I can’t emphasize the number of ‘ifs’ I’ve said enough before I say this, but the Los Angeles Lakers would be a team he would have interest in, and they would have interest in him.
Brian Windhorst said on Get Up
According to the ESPN analyst, the Warriors forward likely wants to play with his best friend, which could see him try to sign with them once he clears waivers after a trade to the Bucks.
Draymond Green always wanted to play with LeBron James
As Brian Windhorst mentioned, there are a lot of ifs and buts that have to fall through if the Warriors were to trade away Draymond Green. After that, there would again be a lot of ifs and buts before he could buy out his contract and become a free agent.
Then, it would take the Los Angeles Lakers to create some cap space to be able to sign the former Defensive Player of the Year. It seems as if it is a pipe dream, but the Michigan native has long desired the possibility.
I’ve always wanted to (play with him). Saying I wanted to go to his team, that’s not the case… I’ve always wanted the opportunity. Just to experience it, to see how he thinks, to see, all right, what I could do to help him and his thinking. Or what can I learn and pick up about what he’s thinking?
Draymond Green told the New York Post’s Melissa Rohlin
Green mentioned that Stephen Curry got his chance to play alongside LeBron James at the Paris Olympics. He does not want to leave the Warriors, as he is in a good place.

However, if a chance arises, he would like to see what it is like to play alongside the man he believes to be the greatest basketball player of all time.
With LeBron James’ future up in the air, Lakers are unlikely to make a move for Draymond Green
The entire problem with this possibility is that even if Draymond Green and LeBron James might want to play with each other, it all depends on whether the Los Angeles Lakers want it.

The problem is that after the recent revelations regarding how franchise governor Jeanie Buss feels about the oldest player in the league, many are resigned to the fact that the four-time league MVP might not stay in Los Angeles beyond this season.
If the purple and gold franchise wants to stick to that line of thought, then maybe they may not approach Draymond Green. Not only will the latter’s inclusion complicate matters, but it could also become a PR headache.
