After the trade for Jimmy Butler in the middle of the last season, Draymond Green believed that the Golden State Warriors were ready to make a championship run. But things did not go as planned, as an injury to Stephen Curry hurt them as they were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games in the second round of the playoffs.
With a whole preseason under Butler’s wing, the Warriors would have felt that things could only get better. But after 25 games into the 2025-26 campaign, the Dubs find themselves at eighth in the Western Conference standings with a poor 13-12 record.
With Curry, Butler and Draymond Green all past 35 years of age and in the backend of their careers, it was expected that the younger players such as Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski would help the veterans in carrying the workload of a grueling NBA season. But they find themselves in a precarious position.
Head coach Steve Kerr has been instrumental in the Warriors’ success over the last 10 years. Since joining the franchise in 2014, Kerr, along with the face of the club, Curry, has gone on to create a dynasty. The Warriors have won four championships in six finals appearances in 10 years under the 60-year-old.
Defense wins championships, and the Warriors have struggled in making stops this season. Lack of energy and athleticism have been the major reasons for their defensive lapses, especially towards the end of fourth quarters. Poor squad selections and rotations have resulted in Dubs fans questioning Kerr and his coaching. A fan made his feelings known on Kerr by replying to Green’s post on threads. The fan said,
Bummer. I thought you were talking about Kerr. The fans deserve better. We’re tired of seeing incompetence from this coach: games thrown due in part to nonsensical rotations and favoritism towards a player who likes to throw the ball into the crowd. Curry’s final years are being wasted by Kerr. This season is no different than the last one.
Green came to his coach’s defense and fired back at the fan with some harsh words:
Shut up! Fans ain’t win anything before Steve brought his winning ways to the bay. Save it! You watched incompetence for many years if you a real fan. Shut the hell up and go whisper that s*** to another idiot that wants to listen.

It is no secret that Green and Kerr share a strong bond and have achieved plenty of success together. Kerr has often defended Green during press-conferences despite Green’s controversial actions throughout his career. Hence, it was only fair that the former Defensive Player of the Year came in support of his head coach.
Steve Kerr on wanting the best for Jonathan Kuminga
Kuminga has struggled for minutes since his return to action after an ankle injury that ruled him out for a few games. In the absence of Curry, the forward has not been able to take up the scoring burden and to make matters worse, he was a DNP in the Warriors’ 123-91 win over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. In fact, it is Pat Spencer who has been a surprise package for the Warriors in Curry’s absence.
During the Warriors’ most recent press-conference, Kerr discussed Kuminga’s situation and the trade rumors surrounding the 23-year-old.
I think it wasn’t impacting anything for us. You’d have to ask him about his feelings. I can imagine it wasn’t easy for him. We talked about the situation. My desire was for JK to become the best player he could be, regardless of where he ended up, here or elsewhere. I tell my guys all the time, very few players spend their entire career with one team. That rarely happens. I played for six different teams.

It appears that Kuminga’s days with the Warriors are numbered, and it does not look like he fits into Kerr’s plans anymore as the Warriors look to build on their last two wins.
Stephen Curry is nearing his return
There is some good news for the Dubs nation as Kerr confirmed that Curry had returned to practice on Wednesday. The 37-year-old has missed the last five games after suffering a left quad contusion against the Houston Rockets.

The Warriors guard has already missed a few games this season, but despite his age is still performing at a very high level. The four-time NBA champion is averaging 27.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists this campaign.
The club and fans are hopeful that their star player returns to court against the Timberwolves on Friday. If he does return on Friday, it will be the first time this season that the Warriors will have a fully healthy roster together.
