Not so long ago, a former first lady of the US, Michelle Obama, went in hard at one of the prominent sports talking heads, Stephen A. Smith, claiming that his actions and reactions on the ESPN On Today show are similar to or compared to a Real Housewives drama series. This surely attracted the NBA community’s attention, bringing out immense reactions from the fans in the process.
Now, just days later, it seems as if famous Hollywood superstar Denzel Washington has chimed in on this bandwagon, but he called out all the sports talking heads in general regarding their opinions and takes on the NBA superstars that are playing at this moment. Washington and Jeffrey Wright had a conversation with Sports Illustrated.
They’re on all the shows, a bunch of the guys, a couple that have played, but most of them who haven’t who have an opinion about what something should be when they haven’t done it. Those who can do. Those who can’t talk about those who can. Those who have know what they’re talking about. Those who haven’t, don’t. Period.

Many fans in the comment section assumed that Washington was referring to Smith when he went on to attack critics, particularly talking heads. He fired a shot on behalf of any athlete who feels that to comment, one must have played, regardless of who he was referring to. On the SI Instagram page, this segment of the interview was shared as a breakout video.
It received a lot of reactions and likes, notably three fire emojis from Kevin Durant. Now, Durant is known to have an active social media presence throughout his NBA career. His recent comment on Sports Illustrated’s Instagram post showcases his stance regarding Washington’s comments concerning the sports heads.
Washington is known to be a huge sports buff as he has appeared on several podcast shows and sports talk shows to speak about the respective sports that he has appeared on. Washington and famous Knicks supporter Spike Lee appeared on First Take a few days ago to promote their film Highest 2 Lowest. Not only that, Washington also called out NFL star man Shedeur Saunders‘ haters recently.
Draymond Green took to his Instagram to praise Denzel Washington for speaking up against sports ‘talking heads’
Academy Award winner Denzel Washington coming out and having a go at the world’s top sporting heads was not something anyone had in mind. But as soon as Washington spoke his mind, everyone chimed in on the matter. Soon after Kevin Durant commented on the post, his former teammate Draymond Green took it up a notch.

Green took to his Instagram stories to praise the acting legend for speaking up on this matter. Draymond Green wrote, “Some Can! Most Can’t Shut Up!!! Preach.”
LeBron James reacts to Denzel Washington’s take on sporting heads
It’s safe to say that Washington’s interview with Sports Illustrated garnered quite some attention from the sporting world in general. In particular, Durant and Green were not the only NBA players to react to that post. In addition, NBA legend LeBron James also liked the post, and former NBA player Kevin Garnett also reacted to Washington’s take on sporting heads.

James has had a bad past with ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith this past 2024-25 NBA season. He was seen having a go at Smith courtside when the latter was present to watch James play for the Lakers. This was mostly because of Smith’s constant criticism of his son, Bronny James, throughout the whole year.
After Washington came out and spoke on this matter, it was evident that James would react, and that’s exactly what he did, adding a like for the post, but sending a strong message to the NBA community.
