A new season brings another time when all eyes are on Draymond Green as he and his Golden State Warriors navigate their way around the regular season in hopes of winning another NBA title.

A couple of seasons ago, much ado was made about his lack of self-control. A choke on Rudy Gobert and then a smack to the face of Jusuf Nurkic led to an indefinite suspension and calls for the forward to get treatment.

After he returned in the 2024-25 season, he seemed to be a lot calmer and went about his business being the defensive stalwart and the primary playmaker of their offense.

Come playoff time, the loss of Stephen Curry to injury seemed to have triggered Green’s desperation to win. He was battling hard with opponents and sometimes took it a bit further than required.

This season, he has so far displayed some stability, even though opponents have tried to rile him up. At the same time, the four-time champion has dipped into his humorous side.

That way, he can laugh it off and avoid getting into confrontations. While playing against the Memphis Grizzlies, his maturity was on display when he fouled Santi Aldama hard.

Then, at the free-throw line, the Grizzlies forward missed both his free throws. After the first miss, a smile broke out on Draymond Green’s face. After the second, he was skipping around, smirking at the Grizzlies.

The Michigan native’s reaction led fans and commentators to break out into a bout of laughter. Even the opposing team could not do anything about it, as Draymond Green was literally trolling them for making a fuss about the foul.

Draymond Green shuts up Jaren Jackson Jr.

After fouling Santi Aldama, Draymond Green bent down to check on the Memphis Grizzlies forward. Usually, that would be enough to avoid any further conflict.

Then, Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. came over and started jawing with the Warriors star. He was incensed that the 6′ 6″ star resorted to a hard foul, which could have led to an unwanted injury.

The only problem is that Green typically does not back down from anyone who attempts to jaw with him. The 35-year-old started shouting ‘shut up’ at Jackson Jr., and officials had to try to calm him down.

He did not stop, and continued to yell at the Grizzlies star, until the latter walked away. Green was assessed a flagrant 1 on that play, which led Aldama to attempt those two free throws.

The reason he was trolling the Grizzlies was that the foul was not as egregious as they were trying to make it out to be. Draymond Green believed the Spanish forward missing both free throws reiterated his point about the foul.

Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, and Jimmy Butler play less minutes

In their first three games of the season, the Golden State Warriors depended on their veteran trio of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler to bail them out.

The result was a 2-1 record, with the lone loss being on the second of a back-to-back. In those games, the veteran trio played a lot of minutes, and Curry was on a heater.

In this game against the Memphis Grizzlies, head coach Steve Kerr dialed down their minutes. After winning the game 131-118, the superstar point guard was asked about the contributions of their younger teammates:

There will be games all of the Uncs are out and they’ll have to step up.

Stephen Curry replied

This answer suggests that the team is now experimenting with increased minutes for its younger players, so that the veterans can stay fresh for the later part of the season.
