Draymond Green is often regarded as one of the biggest villains in modern-day NBA. The Golden State Warriors star has regularly been involved in controversies throughout his career. Fighting with the opponents, punching a teammate, trash talking towards a fan, arguing with the referees, Green has done it all and served numerous suspensions for his inappropriate behavior.

But on Tuesday night, a different Draymond Green took to court in a 124-112 loss to the reigning and defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chase Center. The loss drops the Warriors to 11-11 for the season and eighth in the Western Conference standings.

It was a tough night for the Warriors as they were without their primary scorer, Stephen Curry, while Jimmy Butler did not return to the game in the second half. Hence, the defensive and leadership responsibilities fell on Green.

The forward put in an impressive performance as the Warriors stepped up defensively in the second half and stayed competitive till the end of the game. Despite the loss, it was a welcome change for the Warriors as they have been very poor in defense over the last few games.

Green nearly grabbed a double-double as he recorded a stat line of 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists, making 3 three-pointers on the night.

Green, who is often known for speaking his mind seemed to be in control of his emotions during the match. After the loss, the four-time NBA champion spoke about his good behavior on court and the effect of his son’s presence on the bench in the press-conference.

It is cool. If anything, it makes me shut my mouth on the bench if I was going to say something. It keeps me in check, I know he is watching.

Warriors players and fans will be hoping to see more of Draymond Jr. on the bench as Green has landed in trouble more often than not in recent times.

Draymond Jr. wanted to meet Chet Holmgren

Chet Holmgren has made some good improvements as the former number two pick in the 2022 NBA draft is averaging 18.4 points and eight rebounds so far this campaign.

While the game may have not ended in Warriors’ favor, a wholesome moment took place after the match. Green’s son, Draymond Jr., who was on the Warriors bench, asked his father if he could meet the OKC center, Holmgren.

He came to me after the game and asked ‘Can you introduce me to Chet Holmgren?’ I went and introduced him to Chet. Chet was nice. I really appreciate that. Anytime you can give them those experiences, quite honestly, that money cannot buy, I’m always forever grateful.

It was a strong performance from Holmgren as the 23-year-old scored 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and three assists.

Can Oklahoma City Thunder break the regular-season record?

It is scary and worrisome for the rest of the league because there seems to be no signs of slowing down for the OKC at the moment. The defending champions lead the NBA with a 21-1 record and are currently on a 13-match winning streak. They are five games ahead of their nearest competitor in the Western conference, the Los Angeles Lakers.

To add fuel to the fire for all their rivals, OKC were playing without their second best player, Jalen Williams, for the majority of the season. The 2025 NBA All-Star played just his third game of the 2025-26 season against the Warriors after making his return against the Phoenix Suns on November 28.

Green, who was a part of the historic 73-9 Warriors team in 2016 was asked if the defending champions were capable of breaking the record.

It’s hard man but I do think they are capable. You just need so many things to go right though. From health, although they kind of plow right through health issues so it don’t matter, it seems. You need a lot of breaks to go your way but they are on the right track and like I said, they are more than capable. I think 73 wins took some years off my life. But like I said, they are capable of a lot.

Led by reigning league MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 38 points against the Warriors and is currently averaging 32.8 points per game for the season. The OKC are not just beating their opponents, they are wiping them out. They are winning with a point differential of 15.3 points after the first 22 games of the season.
