Draymond Green STUNNED at 76ers coach’s $175K for four days job
Draymond Green would have earned less than the $175K Nick Nurse earned in 4 days of work.
Golden State Warriors superstar Draymond Green was stunned when Philadelphia 76ers HC Nick Nurse revealed he earned $175K for days of work
Draymond Green has earned over $177 million during his NBA career. That is an average of approximately $40,000 per day he has been a part of the Golden State Warriors. As a player that is a decent sum of money. However, head coaches do not get paid the same, which is why he was stunned to learn that Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse made more than him in 4 days of work.
The Philadelphia 76ers coach was a guest on the podcast The Draymond Green Show. During the episode, Green asked him about the story.
Best job I ever had. So, I was coaching at the Iowa Energy in the D-League. Greg McDermott was then the coach at Iowa State. He offered me a job to be his associate head coach...On Sunday, he called me and said, 'Hey I'm going to Creighton'. And he said 'You wanna come with me to Creighton?'. And I was like we just started this job. I ended up going back to Iowa Energy after 4 days at Iowa State.Nick Nurse said
That is how Nick Nurse ended up making $175K in 4 days as Iowa State’s associate head coach. A figure Draymond Green would like to earn in those number of days. With the current salary Draymond Green is paid, he would earn less than the $175K in 4 days of work. For Nick Nurse to get that big an amount in just 4 days baffled Green.
Head coaches in the NBA have not yet breached the $20 million per season mark. Therefore, it is next to impossible to earn that amount of money in such a short time.
Draymond Green and Nick Nurse agree on shorter regular season
After discussing other things related to basketball, the Golden State Warriors superstar suggested that the NBA should reduce the regular season from the current 82 games. To this Nick Nurse had quite the reply.
I think I would be favor of that. Everybody kind of can do everything now right? Everybody has to guard on the perimeter, there's lot more transition. Like if the pace is twice as fast, it means we're doing twice as much. So that the chances for injury and all that should be twice as great as well right?Nick Nurse replied
Green agreed with this logic of the Philadelphia 76ers head coach. In fact, he added that a shorter season could benefit the league.
That is, if the league reduces the number of regular season games, then the playoffs will be more entertaining. This year’s injuries in the playoffs have led to a reduction in the entertainment side of the game. Which inherently contributed to a drop in viewership.
Nick Nurse advocated that today’s game is much faster and more athletic compared to the days of old. Therefore, the comparisons are not valid. The league should do what is best for the sport.
