Over the past two years, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green has used his podcast and social media platforms to make his voice heard, often weighing in on the league’s biggest debates.
From speaking out on the CBA deal to amplifying Denzel Washington’s fiery rant about sports talking heads, Green rarely stays on the sidelines of conversation.
Most recently, he stirred controversy by commenting on the Miami Heat, suggesting that some fans wanted Haywood Highsmith to take Jimmy Butler’s place in the starting lineup.
However, this assertion did not play well with Miami’s supporters. Heat supporters swiftly retaliated, adamantly disputing that such a request had ever been made. Rather, they worked against Green, calling him out for his uncalled for attack on their fan base and ridiculing him for inventing a fictitious scenario.

In Green’s defense, the Warriors star was just protecting and supporting his current teammate in Jimmy Butler. In a short time, Butler has bonded with the likes of Green and Stephen Curry at the Warriors. So much so that the former Heat player has also given his new teammates nicknames such as Batman and Batmobile while on his trip in China.
Butler’s departure from the Heat was filled with controversy, with the Heat president Pat Riley not letting go of his main asset so easily. Of course, claiming Highsmith to start over a six-time NBA All-Star in Butler on the Heat side would surely annoy any basketball fan in general. By the looks of it, Green’s assessment of the Heat fanbase was surely wrong.
Fans furious with Draymond Green wrongfully calling out the Heat fanbase
The Miami Heat fanbase called out Draymond Green for his recent controversial take regarding the matter. Per reports, Haywood Highsmith was traded to the Brooklyn Nets recently, which brought out a reaction from Green in the first place. However, fans quickly corrected the 2017 DPOY winner.
Many went on to claim that they never had a thought of wanting Butler to be subbed in for Highsmith ever. One fan wrote on X, “There is not a single person who honestly suggested Jimmy Butler should be benched for Haywood Highsmith.” Check out some of the fan reactions below:

The 28-year-old Highsmith was traded to the Nets as part of a contract dump after playing a supporting role for the Heat for the previous four years. Kevin Pelton, an ESPN insider, revealed that Highsmith might be moving again.
Draymond Green opened up on an interesting David Lee-Steve Kerr starting 5 story
The Golden State Warriors’ 2014-15 NBA season was not that great, as they suffered an early first-round playoff exit. But the only ray of hope that season was the emergence of their current star defender, Raymond Green. Green was just a youngster back then, but turned heads with his immense defensive skills throughout the season.

So much so that when their veteran David Lee returned from a hamstring injury, the Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr decided to keep Green in the starting five rather than pick Lee.
Steve’s like, ‘No, we’re going to keep starting the same way we’ve been starting.’ I was like, ‘Yo,’ And I think the first person I called was my mom, like, ‘Do you believe that? D-Lee’s back, but Steve’s still going to start me.’

Lee stayed professional all along, accepting Kerr’s decision to bench him over Green. And just like that, the Warriors established themselves as a dynasty in 2015, winning the championship with Green anchoring the defense and creating open looks for teammates on offense. If Lee had been obstinate and refused to embrace his off-the-bench role, none of these things would have occurred.
