- Draymond Green praises Victor Wembanyama as an "otherworldly" talent and a top two-way player.
- Wembanyama is a leading MVP contender, averaging 24.2 points and 11.9 rebounds this season.
- The San Antonio Spurs have significantly improved, currently sitting second in the Western Conference standings.
Draymond Green is often viewed as a controversial player and one of the few tough guys in modern-day basketball. The former Defensive Player of the Year is known for his on-court antics throughout his NBA career. But along with his antics, the forward is known for bringing in tenacity that has propelled the Golden State Warriors to four NBA championships in the last 10 years.
Last week, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown called himself the best two-way player in the league. He excluded Victor Wembanyama from the list because he couldn’t be compared to other regular NBA players.
Victor Wembanyama has been on a tear this season. When the San Antonio Spurs drafted the 7’4″ center as the number one pick in the 2023 NBA draft, they drafted a generational player they can build around for years to come. In just his third season in the league, Wembanyama is already a top-five contender for league MVP. His performances in the last few games have propelled him into a three-player sprint for the MVP award.
The center was dealt a huge blow last season, which ended his season and could have derailed his NBA career. However, Wembanyama has bounced back strongly this season. While he is a defensive specimen, he has been lethal on offense as well. He is currently averaging 24.2 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and three blocks in 51 appearances this season.
Draymond Green weighed in on Brown’s statement on ‘The Draymond Green Show,’ wholeheartedly agreeing and doubling down on the Celtics forward’s comments.
Wemby is this otherworldly thing man. Like, I’m not even going to say otherworldly person, he is just this otherworldly thing and everything that he does is going to take you like four people to do. Like, he is that special of a player.

It is a no-brainer that Victor Wembanyama is an anomaly. The NBA world has never seen a player who is 7’4″, moves like a guard, and can shoot from range. He is a dominant shot-blocker and is a strong frontrunner for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Rudy Gobert on Victor Wembayama’s attention to detail
Victor Wembanyama has been a Defensive Player of the Year candidate since his rookie season. The growth of the Spurs center in the last three years has been second to none, and he has already elevated himself into one of the best players in the world today.
Four-time DPOY Rudy Gobert offered high praise and served as a mentor to the 22-year-old in a recent interview.
Victor is passionate about health, recovery, and the mental aspect of the game. But at the same time, he already understands how to improve things for his daily lifestyle and his daily recovery. A few days ago, he asked me what kind of filter I have in my house for water. Those are things that not a lot of 22-year-olds are asking. It shows how smart he is. But it also shows how dedicated he is to every aspect of greatness.
If there is something that could derail Wemby’s NBA career, it is injuries. However, based on Gobert’s statements, the Spurs center is already taking good care of his body and is destined for greatness.
Can Victor Wembanyama take the San Antonio Spurs to an NBA championship this season?
Last season, the Spurs finished 13th in the standings with a 34-48 record. But they have taken a huge leap this season and have won 16 of their last 18 matches.
Following their loss to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night, the Spurs currently sit at second place in the Western Conference standings with a 48-18 record. They are 3.5 games behind the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Spurs are seen as the biggest threat to the Thunder’s title defense. The Spurs lead 3-1 head-to-head in their four meetings this season and also beat the Thunder in the semifinals of the NBA Cup. They have also shown that they are a formidable side when Wemby is not playing for them as well. With the right pieces around Wemby, the Spurs will fancy their chances in the playoffs this year.
As the Spurs inch closer to their best season in nearly a decade, they may soon have a chance to join NBA royalty. The Spurs have already won five championships, something unheard of for a mid-market team. If Wemby can take them to a championship this year, they would join the Chicago Bulls as one of just five teams with six titles.
