During the first two rounds of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, the Minnesota Timberwolves were on a fantastic run. After all, the team defeated the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers in consecutive series. But in the Western Conference Finals, the Timberwolves faced their rival: the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unfortunately for Anthony Edwards and his Timberwolves side, they were handed a 4-1 series defeat by the Thunder.
Before he was eliminated, Edwards made a few controversial statements that did not sit well with a 4-time NBA champion, Draymond Green. Edwards stated that he did not get chances to make ‘enough shots’ after his Game 4 loss. Given that, the Golden State Warriors veteran brought out several grave issues regarding Edwards.
I’ve seen some stuff coming from the Timberwolves that is hard to rally around, you know, like Ant Man’s press conference last game, saying he didn’t get enough shots… Like I want to see. Ant Man, just own that moment. I’m saying, like, ‘I wasn’t good enough’, because saying ‘I ain’t got enough shots,’ like you got the ball.

Anthony Edwards, who is only 23 years old, has already made it to the conference finals twice. Following the Karl-Anthony Towns-New York Knicks trade deal, Ant has become a much better team leader. But as Green noted in the most recent episode of his podcast, it’s clear that there’s still space for development in that area.
For comparison, in Games 4 and 5, Edwards only managed 16 and 19 points, respectively. Rather than owning up to his mistakes, Edwards placed the blame elsewhere. On the other hand, the Dubs veteran also denounced the actions of head coach Chris Finch against Julius Randle during his WCF struggles.
Coach Finch cut Randle’s playing time in the following four games, even though Randle scored 28 points in the first game of the conference finals. This demonstrated a glaring lack of faith in the skills of the three-time NBA All-Star. In any case, the Timberwolves have a crucial offseason to get better.
Jay Williams makes an important Anthony Edwards-Michael Jordan case
Anthony Edwards has been good at getting to the rim ever since he joined the league. He even improved his three-point shooting to the point where he led the NBA in three-pointers made this season. The 23-year-old is capable of doing almost anything. However, Jay Williams discussed on ESPN how to add the one element that would elevate his performance.
In every play that you see, it’s him at the top of the key, him trying to dance off the dribble, him trying to take long threes. His game needs to go to the Kobe Bryant stage, the Michael Jordan stage. If Anthony Edwards learns how to play with his back to the basket, the game will be over for the rest of the league.

For Edwards, the ceiling above him is huge. There was a time when the NBA fans were calling Edwards the ‘face of the league.’ But he has yet to win an NBA title. One could not be the face of the league without winning at least 1 NBA title in their career. Given that, only time will tell whether or not Edwards wins the glorious prize or not going forward in his basketball career.
Udonis Haslem offered some important advice for Anthony Edwards after his WCF Finals loss
Losing the Finals is always difficult, especially after pouring your blood and sweat all season to reach this stage, something that the Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards did this year. Despite that, Edwards and Co. were knocked out by the Thunder. Notably, former NBA player Udonis Haslem offered some important advice to Edwards recently.
This is for you, young king, Ant-Man. Do not take it for granted. As an OG, I appreciate you doing this for for the OG, Mike Conley, but do not take this opportunity for granted. You’ve been to two Western Conference finals early in your career. You’re only 23 years old, you have so much basketball to go.
Udonis Haslem said
For context, Edwards stated that he ‘isn’t hurting’ but was upset for his teammate Mike Conley instead. This did not sit well with Haslem, who offered him an important piece of advice(mentioned above). In the conference finals, Edwards averaged 23 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. The Timberwolves star has a long future ahead of him, but he has to make it count sooner rather than later.
