The way Chris Paul exited the Los Angeles Clippers has rattled the NBA, with fellow players and former teammates such as Draymond Green struggling to get to grips with how it turned out.
The veteran point guard was supposed to have his perfect swansong. Retire wearing the jersey of a team that he essentially dragged from the doldrums to become a playoff regular and do it with his family in close proximity.
Now that the dream farewell tour has been shattered, leaving Chris Paul to rethink his career. He might not have many options left, as not many championship-contending teams have the roster or cap space to sign him.
The best option would be to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, but he would have to wait until mid-January for anything to materialize. While speaking about this topic, his former Warriors teammate said this on his namesake podcast-
If you’re an NBA player, this should bother you. Because that shows you what can happen to you. The point god was released at 3 AM by the Clippers… If that can happen to Chris Paul, imagine how bad it can get for the rest of us.
Draymond Green said
The former Defensive Player of the Year spoke about the situation in the league currently. From a time when the Luka Doncic–Anthony Davis trade shocked everyone, it became a warning sign that no player was safe.

Draymond Green believes the Clippers’ decision proves that players are nothing more than just pawns. Whenever a franchise believes a player is not worth its time and money, they are left out to dry.
Former All-Star calls out Ty Lue for Chris Paul treatment
Chris Paul’s exit has shocked many. More so when it was brought to light that the 40-year-old was pushed out by the Clippers after he apparently criticized the entire team.

I’m really disappointed in T. Lue and how he’s handled this situation. It’s starting to become a pattern. I’ve experienced it… I saw him do it to Rajon Rondo… Rumors you did it to John Wall. It’s becoming a pattern to how he deals with his players.
DeMarcus Cousins said on Run It Back
This was DeMarcus Cousins, who has played under head coach Ty Lue, who believes he has seen this pattern develop before. The former center believes the Clippers’ head coach alienates players who are critical of his work.

That pattern has seen him jettison experienced players who have found problems in the way he coaches the team. Cousins might have a point, as Lue did indeed refuse to accept a meeting invitation from Paul.
The point guard wanted to settle their differences, but the head coach was not interested. Eventually, it boiled down to the 12-time All-Star leaving for nothing.
Carmelo Anthony warns NBA veterans after Chris Paul debacle
As news of Chris Paul’s exit sped through social media, several fans, analysts, and former players decided to talk about it. One particular former player, and close friend of the point guard, Carmelo Anthony, said this.
It’s happening to Russ. It’s about to happen to DeMar DeRozan and Anthony Davis. The next trade AD has, it’s downhill from there… The way that the legends of our game gets treated is f**ked up.
Carmelo Anthony said on 7PM in Brooklyn
Paul’s fellow Banana Boat Crewmate believes other existing veterans had better watch out, as they could end up in a similar situation. The Clippers have set a precedent, which could become the norm.

As loyalty gets thrown out of the window, it is up to the veteran stars to find ways to continue, instead of trying to be the superstars who know it all, and end up going too far with their criticism.
