Dre Greenlaw plays with passion. He channeled that passion to go from a 5th round pick to become the starting linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers for the last three seasons.
In that time, his passion sometimes sent his emotions over the top, which was evident when he shoved Cardinals tight end Trey McBride despite being inactive.
The 49ers ended up eating the $100,000 fine, even though Greenlaw was out for the season with an Achilles tear he suffered as he was running on to the field.
His passion has also seen him face reprimands from the league, with his blindside hits, and altercations with players and staff of opposing teams.
This past offseason, Greenlaw decided to cash in on his run to the top by signing a three-year, $35 million deal with the Denver Broncos. After struggling with a lingering quad injury sustained during training camp, he was finally activated before their Week 7 clash.
Against the New York Giants, Dre Greenlaw was one of the Broncos’ top defensive players, registering 6 tackles in total. Unfortunately, he will not be able to continue his performances into their next game.
Per the NFL: Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been suspended without pay for one game for unsportsmanlike conduct following Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

This means the 28-year-old will miss the Broncos’ game against the Dallas Cowboys. If anything, this will be a blow for the team as they are about to face a red-hot Dak Prescott and his stellar offensive unit.
Dre Greenlaw chased a referee to confront him
The Denver Broncos staged an epic comeback, setting two NFL records in the process against the New York Giants. Quarterback Bo Nix and his offense scored 33 points in the 4th quarter despite being shut out in the first three.
Dre Greenlaw and his defense also played their part, forcing Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart to throw an interception, and also stopped his next drive with a minute left.
After a couple of scores from either side, the Denver Broncos lined up to kick a field goal. When Wil Lutz sent it between the uprights, all players wearing orange and white ran towards their kicker to laud him for sealing their win.
Something caught my eye from Lutz's game-winning kick yesterday:

After the play, Dre Greenlaw runs after the ref, yelling at him, and the ref actually throws a flag.
It was after the play, and the game was over, so idk what happens.
Just a fine for Greenlaw? Something more? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/LqFTfPV0vV
After avoiding the oncoming Broncos players, referee Brad Allen started to walk towards his colleagues. A clip shared by CBS News Colorado’s Alex Wilcox shows Dre Greenlaw follow Allen and mouth something in his direction. Allen immediately threw a flag.
After the conclusion of the Giants-Broncos game, the NFL said Dre Greenlaw chased after referee Brad Allen and verbally threatened him as he tried to leave the field. https://t.co/d8szqwsno0

The NFL revealed to Adam Schefter that the star linebacker had ‘verbally threatened’ the veteran official as he was trying to leave the field. This is what led to his suspension.
Dre Greenlaw could be crucial to Broncos’ playoff hopes
The Denver Broncos are about to face their toughest stretch of this 2025 season with several playoff teams lying in wait. Dre Greenlaw will be crucial to their quest to reach and do well in the playoffs.

If the star linebacker reverts to his 2022 and 23′ form, his team will be looking to punch their opponents in the gut. Last season, the Broncos had one of the best defenses in the league.
This time, with the additions of Greenlaw and his former San Francisco 49ers teammate Talanoa Hufanga, they are expected to be better. If this unit clicks, the Broncos could steamroll some teams in the playoffs.
