Other than John Cena's tear-jerking loss to Gunther, Cody Rhodes vs. Oba Femi ended in a DQ after Drew McIntyre crashed the party at Saturday Night's Main Event.

The biggest Saturday Night’s Main Event episode in WWE history kicked off with an exhibition match between Cody Rhodes and Oba Femi. It was to honor John Cena‘s spirit of showcasing younger talent from NXT on his final night as an active WWE wrestler.

What was shaping up to be a barnburner between Femi and Rhodes got marred by Drew McIntyre‘s interference. The Scot sneaked into the ring when both men were down. He went right after Rhodes, and it caused a disqualification.

Femi eventually resisted McIntyre, with the two of them coming face-to-face for a moment. ‘The Ruler’ shoved the former WWE Champion to the ground. A shell-shocked McIntyre was staring up at Femi, who was seething over what had transpired.

In the meantime, ‘The American Nightmare’ got back up and planted ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ with a Cody Cutter. It wasn’t over for the Ayr-born wrestler just yet. He also ended up getting chokeslammed by Oba Femi. After putting up a grueling fight, Femi and Rhodes showed mutual respect for each other by shaking hands afterwards. It was the Nigerian wrestler’s main roster debut, and he lived up to his billing.

Even though he couldn’t pull off that alluring upset at the expense of the Undisputed WWE Champion, ‘The Bringer of War’ resonated with the crowd in a way that bodes well for his future. For now, Femi will head back to NXT to take care of business as usual. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Rhodes is all set to continue his feud with McIntyre.

On the latest episode of SmackDown, GM Nick Aldis received a letter from the Scot’s attorney complaining of an unsafe working environment. It came a week after he got ambushed by the ‘Prodigal Son’ inside his car in the parking lot.

Aldis informed Rhodes that he’d visit McIntyre’s house sometime this week to initiate the formalities of reinstating ‘The Chosen One’ back on the SmackDown roster. After having lost a couple of WWE title matches in recent months, McIntyre seems close to completing his trilogy with the former AEW EVP.

With SmackDown set to return to its 3-hour format from January 2, it’d be an ideal show to hold Rhodes vs. McIntyre for the world title in the main event.

AJ Styles and Dragon Lee get past Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater at Saturday Night’s Main Event

In yet another exhibition match on the card at Saturday Night’s Main Event, the World Tag Team Champions, AJ Styles and Dragon Lee, battled Je’Von Evans and TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater. The action was fast-paced from the get-go. A spot at ringside saw Lee catapulting Slater via a Hurricanrana into a Styles Clash hold, only for Evans to lay Styles out with a super kick.

At one point, ‘The Phenomenal One’ experienced a rare slip while going for the Phenomenal Forearm, allowing Slater to go for the cover but to no avail. The match ending saw Styles catching the TNA star mid-air and turning it into a Styles Clash for the pinfall. That being said, the duo of Styles and Lee capped off quite a busy week for them.

They successfully defended those tag team belts against The War Raiders on Raw and proved why they have those titles at Saturday Night’s Main Event. With The Usos announcing their return to the tag team division this past Monday, they could be next in line for a shot at the world tag team titles.
