Drew McIntyre and CM Punk have had the hottest rivalry in WWE over the past few months. They have been feuding since the Royal Rumble, and things have grown highly personal in recent times. The two superstars finally got a chance to settle things in the ring at SummerSlam, with Seth Rollins serving as the special guest referee.
The match began with the two superstars jumping at each other’s throats. They were intent on destroying each other and surely did not hold back their punches. During the match, McIntyre set up his opponent for a claymore. Before counting down for the move, he put on Punk’s personal bracelet. A few weeks ago, the Scot had bloodied the Chicago native in his hometown and stole his personal bracelet, which contained his wife’s and dog’s names.
CM Punk caught his nemesis with a kick before he could deliver the Claymore and soon locked on the Anaconda Vice. While holding down the submission, he noticed the bracelet on his opponent’s hand and let go of the submission hold to retrieve the bracelet. Unfortunately, he lost the bracelet once again in an ensuing scuffle.
Seth Rollins picked up the bracelet and put it on to mess with Punk’s head. The Voice of the Voiceless hit the special guest referee with a GTS and took back his bracelet. Due to this distraction, McIntyre caught his opponent with a low blow, followed by a Claymore.
The Scottish Warrior screamed at The Architect to get up and count the pinfall. Rollins begrudgingly got on his feet, counted till three, and the Chosen One was declared the winner. For good measure, McIntyre once again stole the bracelet at the end of the match.
The wrestling world goes crazy after Drew McIntyre beats CM Punk in a banger match
The WWE Universe was eagerly waiting for a match between these two superstars for a long time. The promotion had done an incredible job building up this blood feud and delivered spectacularly. The match comprised incredible storytelling and stellar in-ring psychology. Many fans had also accused Punk of being ‘washed’ and unable to put on a good match. The Raw Superstar beat all these allegations, giving his all in the ring to put on a great match.
Fans pointed out the incredible storytelling during the match. Drew McIntyre got cashed in on at WrestleMania XL by Damian Priest due to his obsession with Punk. This time, the Best in the World lost his match due to his obsession with Rollins and the bracelet.
Netizens were already speculating where this storyline could lead in the future. These superstars seem bound to have another match soon. The upcoming Bad Blood PLE could be a perfect place to do so, owing to the name of the event. WWE is already planning to do a Hell in a Cell match at the show. The rivalry’s personal nature surely demands it, and it could add some spice to the rematch. Furthermore, a triple-threat match between Rollins, McIntyre, and Punk could also be lurking in the future.
