The Royal Rumble weekend was certainly a tumultuous one for Drew McIntyre. Following the event, several outlets reported that McIntyre stormed out of the building after his elimination. Later, it emerged that McIntyre was angry at LA Knight for hogging the spotlight while Damian Priest eliminated him.
The situation between WWE and McIntyre seemingly resolved, as the latter appeared on last night’s SmackDown episode. In fact, McIntyre even interacted with Knight prior to their Elimination Chamber triple threat qualifier. During their segment, Knight took a shot at McIntyre by referencing his walkout, which made The Scottish Warrior laugh and break character.
Needless to say, there is no backstage heat between the two stars. Moreover, McIntyre seems to have cooled down following the Royal Rumble debacle. Meanwhile, Knight reportedly received no heat backstage for trying to “get his moves in” during the 30-man match.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time that McIntyre got angry by the end of a PLE. Back in 2023, the 39-year-old star had similarly stormed out of the building at Survivor Series. Although the reason behind his walkout was unknown, Drew McIntyre later alluded to being frustrated by CM Punk‘s shocking return.
This walkout was eventually used to ignite their rivalry, which was one of the most personal ones in recent times. Furthermore, McIntyre’s character work evolved tremendously as it transformed into the best year of his career. Taking that into account, fans have speculated about whether McIntyre’s issues with LA Knight will also result in a future program.
Are Drew McIntyre and LA Knight headed toward a WrestleMania match?
Throughout the history of wrestling, there have been several cases of real-life situations being translated into on-screen storylines. As such, it would come as no surprise if WWE took advantage of the Royal Rumble fallout between Drew McIntyre and LA Knight heading into WrestleMania.

Although McIntyre qualified for Men’s Elimination Chamber on SmackDown, the chances of him winning are relatively low. The current reported plans are for The Scottish Warrior to face Damian Priest at WrestleMania. However, the program has been deemed a “nothing match,” especially after the outstanding year McIntyre had.
Instead of this bout, WWE could pivot to a McIntyre-Knight rivalry instead. The seeds for this might’ve been sown during the aforementioned segment on SmackDown. With two months left for WrestleMania, it will be interesting to see whether this is indeed the direction for the show.
