The Scottish Warrior drew a blank once again in a world title match against Cody Rhodes at Wrestlepalooza.

“Always the bridesmaid, never the bride” would be that one adage that best describes Drew McIntyre‘s fate in WWE. The Scotsman once again failed on the big stage against Cody Rhodes. At last night’s Wrestlepalooza PLE in Indianapolis, the Ayr-born wrestler came agonizingly close to dethroning ‘The American Nightmare’ for the WWE title. But the 6’5″ juggernaut from Scotland couldn’t get it done.
Shortly after the event, the 40-year-old posted a self-mocking meme with McIntyre featured in the middle of a never-ending loop of suffering. ‘The Chosen One’ tried to insinuate that suffering builds character. However, in his case, it’s been a one-way traffic, as the results have not gone in his favor over the past year and more.
Speaking of his latest outing at Wrestlepalooza, did he get outclassed by Rhodes? The answer is no. In fact, some fans even pointed out the subpar refereeing by the match official, Ryan Tran, that eventually cost McIntyre the match.
At first, the referee was not where he was supposed to be when the Scot had rolled up Rhodes for an extended period of time. Had Tran been there for the three-count, the WWE title would have changed hands.

The next incident came about at ringside, where McIntyre had Rhodes lined up for the Claymore Kick through the hood of the announce table. The same spot had relegated ‘The Prodigal Son’ to the sidelines for five weeks not that long ago on SmackDown. Tran, the referee, maybe out of sympathy, as noted by Michael Cole on commentary, got into McIntyre’s way and pleaded with him not to execute it.
OH NO DREW! 😱

Drew McIntyre might have just DESTROYED his leg!#Wrestlepalooza pic.twitter.com/j5UIzwiGes
That allowed Rhodes to buy some valuable time, and he got out of harm’s way just when the Scot pulled the trigger. McIntyre crashed his right leg and injured it in the process. The former 3MB member wasn’t even able to walk properly after that miscue, which, once again, could be blamed on the referee. Rhodes consequently hit McIntyre with a Cody Cutter and the Cross Rhodes to retain his gold.
What’s next for Cody Rhodes after the Drew McIntyre scare?
Overcoming Drew McIntyre was the first major roadblock for Cody Rhodes in his title reign that began after he avenged his WrestleMania loss to John Cena at SummerSlam. Beating the ‘Scottish Psychopath’ was always going to be a tall task, but Rhodes took the bull by the horns.
Is their feud over already? That’s hard to believe, as McIntyre is not likely to let go of the substandard refereeing everyone witnessed in that main event at Wrestlepalooza.

However, for the time being, the ‘QB1’ has a lot on his plate. In about three weeks, the son of the late great Dusty Rhodes will go one-on-one with Seth Rollins for the Crown Jewel Championship at Crown Jewel in Perth on October 11. Rhodes got confronted by Rollins during the Wrestlepalooza post-show, after which WWE CCO Triple H made their match official.
That being said, Rhodes and Rollins are no strangers to each other. In fact, it was ‘The Visionary’ only who was the former AEW EVP’s opponent in his epic WWE return at WrestleMania 38. They have wrestled thrice in a singles setting, with Rollins biting the dust on every occasion. It’s that one stat he’d definitely want to change next month.

‘The Architect’ could use the services of Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed to his advantage this time around. Moreover, a vengeful McIntyre might also be lurking in the bushes to get one up on Rhodes. What if the Scot helps The Vision’s leader in dumping ‘The American Nightmare’ at Crown Jewel? It’s definitely not a long shot and may actually happen.
