Is Drew McIntyre‘s WrestleMania spot in jeopardy? There’s certainly some concern going on for the Scot right now. A couple of weeks ago, the former WWE Champion was attacked by Damian Priest backstage. The latter proceeded to deliver a South of Heaven chokeslam to McIntyre on the windshield of a car. Since then, Drew’s been sporting an eye patch.
The 39-year-old recently joined a brand-new episode of It’s Called Soccer. McIntyre confirmed that the shattered pieces of glass off the chokeslam did land in his eyeball. The Chosen One added that it’s not ideal for him to sport an eye patch with barely any time left for WrestleMania. He’s racing against time to make the cut for competing at The Grandest Stage of Them All.
Does that mean there’s a chance that McIntyre could become the second name to get ruled out of the entertainment spectacle in Las Vegas after Kevin Owens? That’s a mild possibility. However, the Ayr-born wrestler isn’t expected to go get surgery, unlike Owens, who had to withdraw after identifying that his neck was banged-up.
I’m currently sporting the patch, hoping I can figure this thing out and get myself on WrestleMania. It’s a fight against time right now.

Drew also stated during the conversation that since he was wearing a leather jacket, his back wasn’t exposed and consequently didn’t pierce his skin. Fortunately, there was some respite for McIntyre. But there’s no rest for the weary. That being said, The Scottish Psychopath will confront Priest in the ring on SmackDown this week. A highly anticipated showdown between the two is expected to be made official as early as Friday.
Drew McIntyre looks to undo an embarrassing start to 2025
After capping off a career-defining 2024, Drew McIntyre ushered in the new year with renewed passion. All eyes were on the man who was hailed by many as the MVP of WWE over the last twelve months or so. On an episode of Raw before Royal Rumble, the Scotsman issued a warning to The Bloodline and told Paul Heyman to inform ‘his boy,’ CM Punk, that he’s going to go after him too.

In the Royal Rumble match, none of Drew’s promises came to fruition when he was tossed out by Damian Priest instead. The elimination was abrupt and deflating for the WWE Universe that was backing him to go the distance. Following the event, reports emerged claiming that McIntyre stormed out of the arena, taking offense to LA Knight subsiding the magnitude of his elimination.
Next, at Elimination Chamber, the Scot once again fell way short of the big game he talked about in the lead-up. In fact, Priest rolled him up from behind. As a result, The Scottish Warrior became the first man to be eliminated without even getting to properly mix it up with the likes of John Cena and CM Punk. Since then, McIntyre and Priest have been going at each other almost every week.
From where did the beef between Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest begin?
Last year at WrestleMania, Drew McIntyre defeated an already wrecked Seth Rollins to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. However, his reign could only last 5 minutes and 46 seconds after Damian Priest successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on the Scot.

It so happened after Drew received a beating from CM Punk after ticking him off on commentary. To this day, McIntyre blames El Campeon for screwing him up that evening. In response, the former Judgment Day member claims that his obsession with The Best in the World cost him instead.
Drew had Priest beat for the gold at Clash at the Castle 2024. However, Punk, disguised as a referee, made sure that McIntyre couldn’t walk out of Scotland with the ultimate prize. The Chosen One has yet to get his lick back on The Street King. It could happen at WrestleMania as they’re on a collision course.
