Drew McIntyre hijacked the starting of this week’s SmackDown, calling out GM Nick Aldis for screwing him out of the Undisputed WWE Championship by booking him in a rematch with Cody Rhodes last Friday.

Aldis came out and asked the Scot to stop playing the victim card again. The general manager of the blue brand said he just fulfilled his duties by making McIntyre defend his title, which comes along with being a champion.

Aldis said McIntyre was hellbent on making sure that Rhodes didn’t receive a fair shot at the WWE title because the first time he got one, ‘The QB1’ beat ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ in it. That made McIntyre go ballistic, and he stepped down from the commentary desk to confront Nick Aldis in the ring and hurl some expletives. It didn’t take long for Jacob Fatu to come out.

‘The Samoan Werewolf’ affirmed that the Ayr-born wrestler wouldn’t have even won the WWE Championship from Rhodes if it wasn’t for him. Fatu brazenly claimed that he was the one who screwed McIntyre last Friday and asked ‘The Chosen One’ to do something about it. McIntyre said he was done with everything, and he told Aldis to his face that he was quitting WWE.

‘The Scottish Warrior’ stormed off, leaving both Fatu and Aldis confused. But it ended up being a ruse, as McIntyre ambushed the former Bloodline member during his match with Trick Williams later in the night. Drew McIntyre smartly avoided getting caught by the referee and did just the right amount of damage for Williams to land his best shot on Fatu to pick up a major victory.

McIntyre also landed a Claymore kick on Fatu to complete his attack. The SmackDown GM took immediate notice of it and announced McIntyre vs. Fatu for next week’s SmackDown. It’s expected to end in a disqualification or a no contest, leading to a stipulation match between these two men at WrestleMania 42.

WWE is reportedly looking to add a few stipulations to the opening matches across both nights to catch the attention of casual viewers. The first hour of WrestleMania on Saturday and Sunday will air live on ESPN channels for free. It would also mean that McIntyre vs. Fatu, should it get official for Mania, might open the proceedings on whichever night they end up wrestling on.

What was the original plan for Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 42?

Early into this year, when Drew McIntyre won the Undisputed WWE title from Cody Rhodes, they were reportedly scheduled to run it back at WrestleMania 42. The fans vehemently expressed their dissatisfaction with that creative direction, as they had seen Rhodes and McIntyre wrestle each other enough already.

It has now been revealed what WWE was planning to do had this match stayed its course. PWInsider recently noted that a Hell in a Cell match was originally pitched to settle the differences between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre once and for all. However, the company did take notice of the grievances of its audience that had no interest in seeing a rematch between the two, especially at WWE’s biggest show of the year.

So it pivoted to having Rhodes win the title back from McIntyre to cash in on the long-awaited rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. It freed Rhodes up to kickstart a full-fledged feud with his mentor-cum-friend. But what a pity for Drew McIntyre for having to lose the WWE title this close to WrestleMania.

‘The Scottish Psychopath’, however, is planned for a substantial break from WWE immediately after Mania to film for his next Hollywood project in the movie Highlander. Keeping that in mind, McIntyre would’ve surely dropped the world title at WrestleMania before moving onto his filming commitments.

A section of the WWE audience is still mad about how haphazardly McIntyre has been booked, as he comes out looking like a sore loser every single time. Also, with Jacob Fatu almost certain to be his Mania opponent, it looks like the Scot will suffer yet another loss at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
