Despite being sidelined due to injury, Drew McIntyre didn’t miss out on the opportunity to voice his opinion during Backlash. The Scottish Warrior reacted to the World Heavyweight Championship bout between Damian Priest and Jey Uso. While most fans enjoyed the battle, McIntyre lashed out at everything that occurred throughout it.
The former WWE Champion took to X following the match and called the entire program “BS.” First, he mocked the champion and challenger, who both pinned him on successive nights to reach the PLE. Moreover, McIntyre called out Priest for taking the help of The Judgment Day to retain his title. Ironically, the Puerto Rican was irate at his teammates for interfering in his first championship defense.

Jey Uso had the match won on multiple occasions, only for JD McDonagh and Finn Balor to thwart his attempts. The UCE had enough of the distractions and laid out the Irish pair. However, the numbers game caught up to him as Damian Priest hoisted him up for the South of Heaven from the top rope. Following his win, The Judgment Day was close to exploding at Backlash itself, with the champion grabbing Balor by his neck.
As for Drew McIntyre, one can argue that the reason he wasn’t in this match was his obsession with CM Punk. At WrestleMania, the 38-year-old accomplished his dream of winning the world title in front of live fans. However, the Second City Saint ambushed his rival, allowing Priest to cash in his MITB contract. One night later, Punk would continue to torment McIntyre by distracting him in a fatal-four-way #1 contender match on Raw.
Drew McIntyre will take part in the King of the Ring tournament
A couple of weeks ago on Raw, Drew McIntyre announced his intentions to become this year’s King of the Ring. The finals of the tournament will culminate at the Queen & King of the Ring PLE in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. During last night’s Backlash PLE, WWE announced the matches for the first round.
The Scottish Warrior will meet Finn Balor on the upcoming edition of Raw. After a disappointing month, the former WWE Champion has set his eyes on regaining the title he lost at WrestleMania. While the reward for winning the tournament hasn’t been confirmed yet, it is safe to assume there could be a world title opportunity awaiting the victor.
Meanwhile, McIntyre’s frenemy, Sheamus, will be revisiting his iconic rivalry against Gunther. Furthermore, Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio will go one-on-one as well. The final bout consists of a ‘dream’ match between NXT callup, Ilja Dragunov and new WWE Speed Champion, Ricochet. All in all, an intriguing round awaits on the red brand on Monday.
