Wrestling fans will remember that Drew McIntyre was once known as ‘The Chosen One,’ handpicked by Vince McMahon himself to become WWE’s next big star. Early in his career, McIntyre showed tremendous promise, scoring big wins over top names like Kane and Rey Mysterio, and capturing the Intercontinental Championship, which many believed was just the beginning of a legendary run.

However, things quickly took a turn for the worse. By the early 2010s, WWE seemed to lose faith in the Scottish Superstar, relegating him to the lower midcard. Teaming up with Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal as part of the comedic trio 3MB, McIntyre’s momentum fizzled out, eventually leading to his release from the company.

Determined to prove his worth, he reinvented himself on the independent circuit, earning global recognition before making a triumphant return to NXT in 2017, where his resurgence truly began. Since then, McIntyre has cemented his place as one of WWE’s top stars, capturing multiple world titles along the way.

Now, in 2025, McIntyre has taken a moment to reflect on his journey, particularly his first WWE appearance on SmackDown way back in 2007. Although his official debut on the blue brand came two years later, his first televised match took place 18 years ago, where he competed alongside his mentor, Dave Taylor, against Brett Major.

On X, McIntyre shared his thoughts on the milestone and wrote a hilarious post.

Internet tells me it’s now 18 years since I debuted on your television screens. The internet tells me I’m ‘still serving’ whatever that means.

Since returning to WWE, McIntyre has become one of the company’s most prominent figures, defeating Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins in major WrestleMania title matches (at WrestleMania 36 and 40, respectively), carrying the brand through the pandemic era, and now thriving in a heel run on SmackDown.

After losing his WWE Championship bout to Cody Rhodes at Wrestlepalooza, McIntyre has entered a heated feud with Jacob Fatu, one of the standout members of the Anoa’i family. The two are scheduled to clash in a singles match on next week’s Friday Night SmackDown, live from the SAP Center in San Jose.

Moreover, rumors suggest that McIntyre could earn a rematch with Rhodes at Survivor Series, but only if he can first defeat Fatu in a potential #1 Contender’s Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1.

Drew McIntyre and other superstars reportedly rally to bring their old theme songs back

It is safe to say that a wrestler’s entrance theme plays a huge role in shaping their character and identity. Over the years, legends like The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels have had iconic themes that defined their careers.

Whether it’s The Undertaker’s chilling gong or Motorhead’s ‘The Game,’ theme songs have been an integral part of wrestling folklore from the very beginning. While former WWE composer Jim Johnston created countless timeless classics, it seems that many current WWE Superstars aren’t thrilled with their entrance music, or at least wish they had something different.

For the past six years, Def Rebel has served as WWE’s in-house music producer. Although they have produced a few solid hits, most fans feel that the misses have outweighed the hits. Interestingly, during the October 10 edition of SmackDown, several Superstars brought back their old entrance themes, instantly catching the attention of fans.

A returning Shinsuke Nakamura answered Sami Zayn’s Open Challenge for the United States Championship, walking out once again to CFO$’s ‘The Rising Sun.’ Later in the night, The Street Profits made their entrance for a WWE Tag Team Championship match against The Wyatt Sicks to their classic track ‘Bring the Swag.’

While nothing is official yet, this could mark the start of a wave of theme song changes across WWE. According to WrestleVotes, several Superstars have been lobbying for new, or in some cases, old entrance music for quite some time.

As seen & heard on tonight’s SmackDown, a few superstars reverted back to their original entrance themes. Sources indicate several superstars have been requesting music changes for some time now, including outspoken names such as Sheamus & Drew McIntyre. Time will tell if all those requests are eventually granted.

Fans have long campaigned for the return of Drew McIntyre’s ‘Broken Dreams,’ which he used during the early part of his WWE career and briefly used for his match against Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle in 2022.

His main theme today, however, remains ‘Gallantry’ by Def Rebel. Similarly, many fans have been hoping to hear Sheamus’s ‘Written in My Face’ again, and judging by recent developments, that dream might not be too far off.
