Drew McIntyre has revealed that one thing he'll never drag CM Punk for despite maintaining overall animosity with him.

Drew McIntyre is set for an unsanctioned match with Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania 42. Just weeks before stepping into the ring with ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ for what’s possibly going to be a show-stealer, the Scot stopped by for a detailed sit-down conversation with Chris Van Vliet. Right at the tail end of the interview lasting 70-odd minutes, Van Vliet asked the WWE wrestler about his family and his cat.
After remaining jolly for the most part, McIntyre’s expressions changed, and he looked stunned for a split second as if something wasn’t right. And it ended up being true. After revealing that his family has been doing great and they’re going to be at WrestleMania for him, the 4-time world champion divulged that his cat, Chaz, recently passed away.
McIntyre said that his heavenly pet was going through a long-term liver disease, and the couple knew he didn’t have much time left with how “their boy” had been acting lately. ‘The Scottish Warrior’ affirmed that seeing Chaz padded down was the hardest thing for him.

He then stressed that it’s the one thing he’ll never make fun of CM Punk, who himself lost his near-and-dear pet dog, Larry, last year. McIntyre revealed being heartbroken for Punk and his wife, AJ Lee, upon the demise of Larry. ‘The Chosen One’ said he’ll miss his little guy forever and didn’t care about getting emotional on camera while talking about his cat.
He stressed that these little creatures are full of nothing but love for their owners, who, after a certain point, essentially become their parents. McIntyre emphasized that losing pets hurt like nothing else while adding that there’s nothing like earning the trust of a dog or a cat. For him and his wife, Kaitlyn, their cat was their emotional support buddy for 14 years.
Drew McIntyre recalls his bloody Hell in a Cell match with Drew McIntyre
The fans still rave about the Hell in a Cell match that Drew McIntyre had with CM Punk at Bad Blood 2024. ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ was asked about it in the aforementioned chat with Chris Van Vliet. He said that the cell was a weapon to justify the vocal assaults they’ve had on each other in the build-up.

Even though the majority of the match was physically abusive to both Punk and McIntyre, one spot in particular made everyone wince. It was when the Scot fell spine first on the edge of the steel steps after missing a claymore kick. It got really scary when blood started spurting out of McIntyre’s forehead.

“I wanted something memorable. I know myself, I know my body control, and I know I could do something that I would never ever do again.”

Punk had smashed a metal toolbox a little too hard into McIntyre’s skull, which opened up a gnarly gash, causing the blood to ooze out. In that moment, that wound wasn’t McIntyre’s primary concern. In fact, he was concerned about it making him lose consciousness and consequently forcing the match to stop.
However, Triple H was in regular contact with the match referee through an earpiece, with the WWE CCO taking updates on McIntyre’s health every now and then. The Ayr-born wrestler kept telling the referee that he was fine, and the word was reaching the gorilla position.
‘The Game’ decided to keep the action going, for which McIntyre gave him full credit, saying ‘Hunter’ had been in those shoes in his heyday and knew exactly how to navigate through those ordeals. Drew McIntyre quipped that CM Punk didn’t beat him that night; the blood did.
Upon reaching backstage, the Scot got checked on by the doctors as they were freaking out about his well-being, and they were surprised to see him in relatively better condition than they had been thinking, except for the 16-17 staples that were needed to close that wound on his forehead.
‘The Chosen One’ rated his HIAC showdown as the best wrestling moment of his career, in addition to a number of other special ones he’s had, like when he presented the world title to his wife at WrestleMania 40, when he Claymored-kicked Brock Lesnar in 2020, etc.

That restored Hell in the Cell to its former glory.
I know when we were retired and long gone, people will still talk about that match”

Drew McIntyre also mentioned his most recent WWE title win from Cody Rhodes in Berlin as a memorable one. However, when it comes to pure wrestling, McIntyre had no doubt about that bloodbath with Punk being his masterpiece in the business he’s been in.
