Drew McIntyre has worked heavily on his microphone skills over the past few years. He has become one of the most compelling storytellers in the industry. Thus, it is no surprise that while speaking unrestrictedly on a recent podcast, the 39-year-old cut one of the best promos that fans have seen throughout the past year.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, McIntyre said that after his Hell in a Cell match against CM Punk, he went back home to deal with the death of his family member. Spending this time at home allowed him to think about the toxic side of wrestling. While on the road, the roster called each other family. However, this was just for convenience, and the Scottish wrestler was with his real family during his absence.
McIntyre revealed that barely anyone had checked in on him during this time. He tried to stay away from social media during this time. However, what he saw online really blew him away. McIntyre said that people were cutting 1-minute promos and were being celebrated as if they had just cut the best promo of the year. He opined that wrestling was no longer how it used to be when he started.

While being at home, The Chosen One realized how much of his family life he had missed. This included anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, and even funerals. After taking all this into consideration, he had almost decided that he was going to leave the industry. Thankfully for fans, he came back to WWE and even explained why he did so.
Drew McIntyre says he has received almost nothing after giving his life to the professional wrestling industry
Drew McIntyre continued his intense promo on the same podcast and talked about the sacrifices that he had made throughout his entire life. He emphasized how much of his health and life he had given to professional wrestling. McIntyre felt like he hadn’t received much back but would still be fine with it if others followed suit, and it turned out to be good for the industry.
Injuries had never bothered him throughout his career. He showed up to work regardless of broken bones. Thus, he never had time to be at home for seventeen years since he began his career. This quiet time truly allowed him to reflect on his time as a wrestler.
He reminisced about the times when he was working on the indie scenes and living paycheck to paycheck. Now, even after achieving such stardom, McIntyre has realized that it all meant nothing. He said that even legends of the industry, such as ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, are all going to be forgotten about one day.
