The stage is set for the highly anticipated middleweight title clash between Khamzat Chimaev and Dricus Du Plessis. Ahead of the UFC 319 main event bout, ‘Borz’ remains the overwhelming favorite, with a majority of fans strongly rooting for his dominant victory. The fight is scheduled for the United Center in Chicago, where passionate fans have ensured DDP feels the intense hostility.

With only days remaining before the fight, UFC hosted a press conference where Chimaev and Du Plessis had an intense face-off. Both fighters exchanged multiple verbal jabs, with their trash talk quickly escalating and creating a tense, electrifying atmosphere for everyone. Following the heated exchange, Chicago fans loudly booed the South African champion, leaving DDP momentarily caught off guard.

That was one of the best boos I have ever heard. Well done gents. Don’t worry, you will run out of steam. I have seen this before.

A few weeks prior to the fight, Du Plessis was cautioned by Belal Muhammad about the passionate MMA fanbase in Chicago. The former welterweight champion urged his supporters to make their presence felt against DDP, and that’s exactly what ultimately happened. Whether this reaction stemmed from Muhammad’s influence or simply Chimaev’s massive fan following, the exact reason still remains unclear.

In his last two press conferences, Du Plessis engaged in intense trash-talking battles with Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya before their fights. By the end of those exchanges, he left both opponents visibly emotional, dominating them verbally before ultimately winning the fights.

However, Chimaev remained completely unfazed this time and confidently shouted “Allahu Akbar” immediately after their heated face-off in front of fans. The Chechen fighter has consistently maintained his status as one of the most popular fighters, thanks to his relentless and dominant fighting style.

On top of that, the title contender carries a cold-blooded aura that fans find both intimidating and captivating to watch. Additionally, Chimaev’s quick wit and sharp humor during interviews keep audiences entertained, hence the massive support in Chicago.

Throughout fight week, numerous experts and seasoned veterans have shared their analysis and predictions for the highly anticipated title showdown. Many have unanimously highlighted Du Plessis’ awkward fighting style, emphasizing how challenging it is for opponents to adequately prepare for it.

In his latest YouTube video, former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson voiced his support for the South African, predicting he could secure the win.

Key to victory #1 for DDP is you have to win that first exchange as well. The first clash is always the one that dictates what’s going to happen when you fight Khamzat. So DDP’s got to make sure he wins that first one. DDP has fought the best of the best of the division…It just doesn’t make sense how he’s able to get things done and he has a style where it forces people to do things that shouldn’t have worked essentially. So, for that, I’m gonna go with DDP.

While talking about Chimaev, Johnson raised doubts about the contender’s cardio, which is still not tested to the fullest. So far in his UFC career, he has yet to compete in a five-round bout. However, the ‘Borz’ with his early storm and submission threat can change the dynamics of the bout in seconds.
