UFC/MMA cultures have always had that one ‘guy’ who’s just an absolute tank in their specific roles. In recent times, Dricus Du Plessis has taken up that role when it comes to trash talks. Du Plessis has been a cannon even before he won the 185-pound title. Now that he is the division’s king, that banter has gone into so much more overdrive.
It is something that Khamzat Chimaev and Shara Magomedov now find themselves against. In a recent media sitdown with Sport24, Shara Magomedov said he’d be happy to see the current guard change. With Khamzat Chimaev being next in line as the 185-pound top contender, Magomedov hopes for the worst for DDP. However, Du Plessis was having none of it from the one-eyed UFC ‘Pirate.’
My man… you got one eye on the ceiling and the other at the TV, you not seeing the same DDP as the rest of us… Guys are out here losing fights, no where near contending and talking smack….

Dricus Du Plessis is 2-0 against making former champs lose it with his cross-banter before PPV title fights. Back then, the Afrikaner and his weird fight style were somewhat unheralded. He won his gold against Sean Strickland atop the UFC 297 PPV headliner in somewhat of a controversial fallout. However, since then, he has now paid his dues with a decisive win at UFC 312 PPV. Hence, the champ is now firing on full cylinders.

From Brendan Allen to Belal Muhammad’s double-division dreams; ‘Stillknocks’ has used his trashing skills to full use on multiple fighters. Now, he does on double duty using his smack-talk. He even reveled in Shara Magomedov’s recent loss to Michael ‘Venom’ Page at UFC Fight Night: Adesanya vs. Imavov. A +180 underdog Page swiped him out via UD (30-27, 30-27, 29-28). In a later post, he diverted to his rivalry with Chimaev as well.
Khamzat Chimaev gets it as Dricus Du Plessis renews banter
Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev have engaged in cross-banter for a while now. The Chechen ‘Borz’ has had the promise of gold some three times now. He cemented his status further with a first-round submission (face crank) – 3:34 mark of a divisional veteran at UFC 308.

After which, a Du Plessis vs. Chimaev challenge has been like a must-see tele on cable pay-per-view. While it’s unlikely Khamzat Chimaev engages in much banter other than “kill everybody,” fans are excited for this one. He brings a certain intensity to his fights despite having had camp sickness and pullouts in multiple instances.
This pairing is the sure way to go. Recently, there were also fight rumors placing them in a possible matchup. So, the champ now took a somewhat preemptive strike at the top contender, or rather another preemptive one. Along with middleweight Shara Magomedov, Chimaev now becomes subject to a new diss from Du Plessis. Check out his statement below:

Dricus Du Plessis might have lost one of his biggest PPV title paydays; there’s also quite the challenge ahead in the form of an emphatic Chimaev. Per SportsBetting.ag Sportsbooks, UFC bookies place Borz as a -200 betting fave to snag gold. However, DDP never loses his fire and confidence, and it shows. If anything, it’s only a sign of more to come during such an actual matchup.
