In the last few years, Dricus Du Plessis has firmly established himself as one of the most active fighters on the roster. Other than his consistent ability to win fights, the reigning middleweight champion also possesses a unique talent for relentless trash-talking. One of his frequent trash talk victims includes former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad, who has often been publicly ridiculed by DDP.
Last year, Muhammad shocked the MMA world by becoming welterweight champion after dominating Leon Edwards at UFC 304. However, when it was time to defend his title against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315, Muhammad failed in disappointing fashion. Despite entering the bout as the betting favorite, he was thoroughly outclassed in striking exchanges throughout the entire championship fight.
Minutes after the crushing loss, Du Plessis tweeted sarcastically mocking Muhammad for his disappointing title defense performance. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, the middleweight champion addressed the tweet and shared his brutally honest thoughts on Muhammad.
I was watching the fight to see him lose. That was literally it. I think he’s an absolute a**hole. I was really happy to see that. So that’s why I made the tweet. That tweet was ready before the fight started. I had that tweet ready, it was basically just copy and paste, boom. Well, call it hope, call it doubt, no doubt it was one of those two.

The beef between Du Plessis and Muhammad began when the welterweight star discredited the middleweight champ during an interview segment. Muhammad boldly claimed that Islam Makhachev could easily move up to middleweight and defeat Du Plessis without much trouble or resistance. However, since then, DDP has already defended his title twice, while Muhammad failed in his first defense.

Du Plessis has mentally destroyed several opponents through ruthless trash talk, breaking them down even before stepping into the octagon. He famously reduced fighters like Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya to tears, exposing emotional vulnerabilities with his verbal assaults. Now, all eyes are on UFC 319, where he’s expected to mentally unravel Khamzat Chimaev before their anticipated title clash.
Dricus Du Plessis gets a serious warning ahead of UFC 319
After dominating former champions like Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland, Dricus Du Plessis demanded an even bigger challenge from the UFC. As a result, he called out Khamzat Chimaev, and after ‘Borz’ defeated Robert Whittaker, the high-stakes fight was officially confirmed. Since then, both fighters have engaged in intense trash talk, constantly mocking and criticizing each other’s fighting styles.

The middleweight champion possesses a wild and unpredictable fighting style that constantly keeps his opponents guessing inside the octagon every round. He stated that Chimaev can’t properly train for someone like him, which gives him a major strategic advantage. However, all this doesn’t seem to bother the Chechen warrior, who has already made up his mind to win the belt.
Everyone says he has a weird style. That’s MMA style. I don’t think it’s something crazy or weird. He does his job, he does good, and he’s a good fighter. I’m better.

Chimaev has an aggressive wrestling style, attacking opponents in the early rounds with explosive pressure and constant takedown attempts. This early onslaught could be dangerous for DDP, especially if he struggles to survive Chimaev’s powerful first-round dominance. However, DDP possesses incredible cardio, which could prove crucial if the fight drags into the championship rounds with fatigue setting in.
