A woman by the name of Cori Clingman has been arrested for the death of former Alabama, Oregon, and Minnesota Vikings cornerback Khyree Jackson. Clingman is set to face 13 charges that include DUI and criminally negligent vehicular manslaughter.

According to reports from ESPN’s Kevin Seifert and FOX9 Minneapolis, Prince George’s County (Maryland) state attorney revealed that Police arrested Clingman on Thursday after gathering enough evidence against her. Aisha Braveboy, the prosecutor in charge of the hearing, said that the arrest of the 24-year-old (23, during the accident last year), starts the fight to get justice for the three young men.

In July 2024, Khyree Jackson with two of his friends, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr., in their car (Dodge Charger) was hit by another car (Infiniti Q50), operated by Clingman. The vehicle went off the road and hit several tree stumps before coming to a standstill. Authorities pronounced Jackson and Hazel dead while Lytton was taken to the nearby hospital.

Jackson was drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft and became good friends with fellow rookie and quarterback JJ McCarthy. The news of his death was a heartbreaking moment for the Vikings organization who, as per inside sources, were massively impressed by how well the former Crimson Tide player was.

The Vikings coaching staff, including head coach Kevin O’Connell, defensive coordinator Brian Flores, and several Vikings players, attended Jackson’s funeral wearing ‘KJ’ stickers on the back of their helmets. They donated $20,000 toward expenses for Jackson’s funeral and also paid out his $827,148 signing bonus to his estate.

O’Connell said back then that Jackson impressed the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff during the spring training sessions.

Jackson’s road to the NFL

After completing his high school in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Jackson waited for a scholarship, but no college took a chance on him until he joined Arizona Western College but dropped out due to being homesick. He signed up to play for Fort Scott Community College while working in a grocery store. The head coach played him as a wide receiver, however, upon his request, allowed to switch positions and start at cornerback where he excelled.

This was followed by a brief spell at Easter Mississippi College, which was cut short because of COVID. Fortunately, Jackson drew interest from top college programs such as Oklahoma, Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn, but he opted to play for Alabama.

In his two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Jackson recorded 14 tackles and 2 pass deflections before moving to Oregon through the transfer portal. At Oregon, he made 34 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 7 pass deflections. Jackson announced for the draft in 2024, ending up in Minnesota.
