Jon Koppenhaver’s story as War Machine was just standard procedure for any MMA Fighter. Having a successful career in the regional circuit he was taken into a Team Serra during the 6th season of the ultimate fighter. There he found out that he couldn’t hang as well with the best and the downfall began thereon.

However, in Jon’s case, the downfall was bigger than most. It would be unfair to say that Jon Koppenhaver never had his moments, he gained a TKO of the night during the TUF Season 6 Finale, and he also managed to win 2 of his 3 Bellator bouts which would ultimately be his final ones in MMA. However, during the TUF season itself, there would be signs of what was to follow after the UFC dreams were to come crashing down.

Jon had a history of assaulting people and as Matt Serra put it “being kind of a nutjob.” Hence it came as no surprise that he would be cut from the organization after his first loss, despite his prior KO. He then went on back to the regional circuit where he was able to string up a few victories hoping to be noticed by the UFC. Though the call never came, Jon would go on with his MMA career.

In 2010, Jon was arrested for an assault charge and was sentenced to one year in county jail. As is apparent from his behavior outside the walls of jail, Jon Koppenhaver was anything but a model prisoner and hence was frequently placed in solitary confinement. He would have serve an additional year of jail time and would be released in 2012 after two years of jail time, straight from Solitary Confinement.

Many expected Jon Koppenhaver to go off the rails after he got out of prison since he started openly using steroids and acting increasingly agitated on his youtube vlogs, however, he found his anchor in adult film actress Christie Mack. The then 22-year-old actress met Jon during a photoshoot the two worked on together and struck up a relationship shortly after in 2013, While everything seemed perfect on the outside since the couple was receiving huge amounts of attention and brand deals, behind closed doors, it was nothing short of a horror film.

Mack would find herself repeatedly on the wrong end of Jon’s outbursts and would suffer severe physical abuse at the hands of the professional fighter. Though she initially kept quiet after 6 months of dating she would separate from Koppenhaver however would keep mum on the abuse.

While Christie moved on with her life Jon didn’t and had a spare key to her place that he used to break into her apartment three months after they had separated. Jon found Christie in bed with her then-boyfriend a 35-year-old man. Outraged Jon Koppenhaver would beat the man to a bloody pulp before doing the same to Mack.

Mack suffered from 18 broken facial bones, a broke nose, 12 missing teeth, and a ruptured liver. Koppenhaver went into hiding for a week, simultaneously uploading self-pitying quotes to his Twitter making it all the more easier to track him. He was arrested in Simi Valley california and charged with 36 counts including murder.

After the conclusion of the trial where Mack herself testified, Jon Koppenhaver was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 36 years, i.e. by the time he is 72. Mack meanwhile has retired from the adult film industry and woks towards helping survivors of domestic abuse like herself
