In Short
  • Druski mispronounced Jaxon Smith-Njigba's name during the NFL Honors, causing a stir in the audience.
  • After the incident, Druski reached out to Smith-Njigba but did not receive a response.
  • Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl, with Smith-Njigba contributing minimally in the game.

A few days before Super Bowl LX, the NFL tasked comedian Druski to announce the name of the winner of the 2025 Offensive Player of the Year Award. Following a brief pause, Druski took a peek at the name before preparing to say it into the microphone.

As soon as he opened his mouth, the crowd let out a collective sigh mixed with amusement. Druski fumbled Jaxon Smith-Njigba‘s name a couple of times, even accidentally pronouncing it as “the N-word.”

Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders, who stood right next to him, did not look too thrilled by Druski’s shenanigans. Eventually, Druski wrapped up the segment by using Smith-Njigba’s acronym, JSN, to address the young wideout.

During a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, Druski revealed that he might have taken his skit a bit too far. He reached out to JSN after the award ceremony, but he did not reply back.

I like to mess around, but sometimes you can go too far. Congratulations to him and the team on the Super Bowl. I think that was an amazing thing. I didn’t get no response back, but I did reach out, I tried.

JSN missed the NFL Honors at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco as he and the rest of the Seahawks were busy preparing for the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium. He sent a recorded video, which the organizers played on the big screen after Druski and Sanders left the stage.

Wow, what an honor. I want to first give all the glory to God. Second, I want to give it to my teammates. I want to thank y’all. I love y’all. You are who I do it for each and every week. I want to give this award to my father.

Seattle went on to lift their second Lombardi Trophy, despite Smith-Njigba having minimal impact on the game. His day finished with four catches for 27 yards. The game finished 29-13.

JSN always carried the potential to be special. From his college days, he displayed a knack for bamboozling defenders before plucking the ball out of the air to score a touchdown.

2025 turned out to be the highlight of his career after head coach Mike Macdonald made him the WR1 for quarterback Sam Darnold, whom they signed on a three-year deal. Smith-Njigba ranked first with 1793 yards from 119 receptions and scored 10 touchdowns.

The Rams’ Puka Nacua finished just below JSN. In 16 games, Nacua racked up 1715 receiving yards from 129 receptions and 10 scores. These two faced off in the NFC title game, and both had 150+ receiving yards and one touchdown each. Seattle came away with a 31-27 victory to secure a place in the Super Bowl.

Speaking on the Arena Gridiron show, Nacua picked Smith-Njigba as a top 5 wide receiver alongside his teammate Davante Adams, Bengals Ja’Marr Chase, Vikings Justin Jefferson, and Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions.

With the fourth year just around the corner, the Seahawks have plans to extend JSN’s contract. But before that, the Seahawks could welcome a new owner, as the Allen Family are in the hunt to sell the club.
