In Short
  • Carlos Alcaraz's 16-match winning streak ended with a loss to Daniil Medvedev at Indian Wells.
  • Dua Lipa's unimpressed reaction during the match went viral on social media.
  • Jannik Sinner reached the Indian Wells final for the first time after defeating Alexander Zverev.

Carlos Alcaraz‘s 16-match winning streak ended at Indian Wells. In the semifinals of the ongoing Indian Wells, the two-time champion suffered a straight-set upset at the hands of Daniil Medvedev. Watching the match from the stands was pop star Dua Lipa, the clip of whose reaction is going viral on social media.

It was Medvedev whom Alcaraz defeated in the 2023 and 2024 Indian Wells finals. But the Russian ace has never tasted success in the California desert. Medvedev easily clinched the first set 6-3. The seven-time Grand Slam champion tried to claw his way back to the game, but his attempt went in vain eventually.

When Medvedev was leading 4-1 in the first set and just won the second point of the game, the camera panned toward the Levitating singer, who, according to social media users, looked ‘unimpressed’ because of Alcaraz’s performance.

In another clip, the Break My Heart singer could be seen chatting with Jannik Sinner, who will lock horns with Medvedev in the final. Medvedev, who has now improved his head-to-head record over Alcaraz to 3-6, trails 7-8 in the head-to-head matchups against the four-time Grand Slam champion.

Sinner breezed past Alexander Zverev in the last four to reach the Indian Wells final for the first time. The 24-year-old last lifted a title at the 2025 ATP Finals by defeating Alcaraz, and before arriving in the California desert, lost to Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals and to Jakub Mensik in the Qatar Open quarterfinals.

Carlos Alcaraz analyzes his match against Daniil Medvedev

Alcaraz was chasing his third title of the season at Indian Wells. After denying Novak Djokovic his 25th Grand Slam title in the Australian Open final, Alcaraz dismantled Arthur Fils in the Qatar Open final. At the press conference after his Indian Wells exit, the 22-year-old analyzed his match against the 2021 US Open champion.

I realized I had to do something different because in the first set, he found all the answers to my proposals. The shade took a long time to reach the court; it seemed like it wasn’t as hot, so I tried to play with more height and more bounce, waiting for my chances.

Last year at Indian Wells, Alcaraz lost to eventual champion Jack Draper. Medvedev lost to eventual runner-up Holger Rune in the last four in 2025.

I tried to be more aggressive in my returns and, from there, be aggressive in the first shots until finding a clear opportunity and going for it. For example, starting to come to the net more often brought me success, although not all the time. I had my chances to close the second set, and I didn’t take advantage; that also made a significant difference.

Sinner has the chance to script history. If he defeats the 30-year-old in straight sets, the South Tyrol native will become the first man in the history of Masters 1000s to win back-to-back titles without dropping a set.

The last time Sinner won a title at this level was at the 2025 Paris Masters, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime. Medvedev will be bidding to win his first Big Title since the 2023 Italian Open.

He has already added two titles to his trophy cabinet this year. He beat Brandon Nakashima in the Brisbane International final, following which, he received a walkover from Tallon Griekspoor in the Dubai Tennis Championships title clash.

Both the former World No.1s have one Sunshine Doubles title to their name. Medvedev won in 2023 by defeating Sinner, who beat Grigor Dimitrov the following year. Sinner skipped both these events last year due to his doping ban.
