‘Dustin is the best of those guys, in my opinion’ – Conor McGregor’s coach believes Dustin Poirier is a tougher opponent for Conor than Michael Chandler and Justin Gaethje
Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh believes that Dustin Poirier is a tougher opponent for Conor McGregor than 2 other top ranked lightweight contenders – Michael Chandler and Justin Gaethje. Conor McGregor is set to face number 2 ranked lightweight contender, Dustin Poirier on the 23rd of January, next year at UFC 257. The winner of match, surely gets a shot at the title, in their next bout.
Speaking of this to THE MAC LIFE, John Kavanagh, clearly stated that Dustin has become a much improved fighter since his first meeting against Conor McGregor, back in 2014, which he lost. He also stated that, if there was any replacement for Dustin at UFC 257, it would surely be an easier fight for Conor McGregor.
“Dustin would be the top of that group” – John Kavanagh
When asked about Michael Chandler and Justin Gaethje, who are the lined up replacements for the fight at UFC 257, in case of any discrepancy, Coach Kavanagh said, “I think in terms of opponent difficulty levels, Dustin would be the top of that group. So if one is replacing Dustin, there’s no nice way of saying it, but it’s a slightly easier fight. Dustin is the best of those guys, in my opinion.”
Michael Chandler is yet to make his UFC debut, ever since signing up for the promotion, months ago, after dominating Bellator. He is still looking for a worthy opponent to fight against. Justin Gaethje, on the other hand, is currently the number 1 ranked lightweight contender, but he was knocked out by Dustin Poirier, when the pair met, back in 2018.
Do you agree with Coach Kavanagh?
