Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier share one of modern MMA’s most defining rivalries, forged through years of history, high-stakes competition, and relentless trash talk. The two clashed three times inside the Octagon, trading wins and losses while keeping their feud alive across multiple UFC eras.

Although ‘The Diamond’ has since retired from the promotion at UFC 318, the tension with the Irish superstar has never fully faded. Recently, Poirier and his wife, Jolie, welcomed their newborn son, Kingston Cade Poirier, sharing the joyful news with fans on social media. Kingston joins older sister Parker as Poirier settles into life after fighting.

In a surprising gesture, McGregor publicly congratulated Poirier on the birth and wished his longtime rival well by writing, “Congrats bro”. When asked about the message during an interview with Ariel Helwani, Poirier delivered a blunt and honest response that reflected the complicated history between the two.

F*** Conor.

For the unversed, Poirier and Conor McGregor last fought at UFC 264 back in 2021 in a tense trilogy bout that quickly turned chaotic inside the Octagon. McGregor broke his leg near the end of the first round but refused to stop shouting at Poirier from the canvas. He even mocked Poirier’s wife with the line “your wife is in my DMs,” which shocked fans watching the moment live.

Poirier ignored the insult, celebrated his victory, and left while their rivalry continued through interviews and social media debates. According to the former interim kingpin, he will never be able to settle his beef with the Irishman, given their history. The veteran has also mentioned that if he and McGregor come face to face, he will resort to fighting.

Since their last fight, Conor McGregor has not returned to the Octagon, while Dustin Poirier remained active against elite competition. Poirier challenged for the UFC title twice during this period but suffered defeats in both championship opportunities presented at UFC 269 and UFC 302, respectively. Many fans and experts believe Poirier is among the most skilled fighters in history to never win a championship.

Many fans urged Poirier to return and compete at the upcoming White House event, which will take place in mid-2026. He explained the fighter inside him has faded after performing and training for decades. Poirier hilariously mentioned that he might fail USADA testing after using steroids jokingly during retirement.

Over the last few months, Conor McGregor has shown intense interest in the White House event and has been training consistently. The fighter has made several changes, including a spiritual awakening, to be able to fight in front of  Donald Trump. Originally, Michael Chandler was expected to face him, but during a recent interview, Dana White recently shut down that highly anticipated matchup.

McGregor, however, insists he remains ready to fight anyone, embracing every challenge offered by the promotion with confidence. Recently, Jorge Masvidal revealed his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has discussed this potential bout with UFC executives during recent negotiations.

It’s not looking bad right now. I can’t say too much more, but it’s not looking bad right now. They’re talking, dialogue has been open, there’s communication there.

Jorge Masvidal has remained inactive for long periods, leaving the UFC with a loss, yet retaining loyal fans. He has chased a Conor McGregor fight for years, promoting it relentlessly, yet negotiations repeatedly collapsed without final agreements. Masvidal believes their personalities guarantee nonstop trash talking and unforgettable verbal confrontations.

Despite excitement, many fans believe McGregor will target an existing UFC champion instead, prioritizing legacy opportunities. According to the UFC CEO, more details about the event will be out after the UFC 324 event. It will be interesting to see how the promotion deals with such confusion.
