Fan-favorite Dustin Poirier will retire this weekend as he faces veteran Max Holloway in a massive fight at UFC 318. With the symbolic BMF title at stake, excitement surrounding this highly anticipated trilogy clash has reached an all-time high among fans. Although some fans hope Poirier continues fighting, he recently revealed his daughter, Parker Noelle Poirier, has certain reservations.

Poirier has competed in the UFC for thirteen years and has faced many of the biggest names in the sport’s history. Outside the octagon, Poirier is a dedicated family man, often mentioning his beloved wife and nine-year-old daughter in interviews. During a recent appearance on The Danza Project, Poirier revealed his daughter’s thoughts about his career as a professional mixed martial artist.

She hates me fighting. She’s been asking me to retire. She was born into fighting….It’s normal for her. My daughter doesn’t think it’s cool. Even if it’s getting popular and people in her school are talking about it, talking about dad. She doesn’t think it’s cool because she doesn’t know anything different.

Poirier has admitted that fatherhood has completely changed his mindset, making him prioritize family time and preserving his health. After participating in countless brutal wars inside the UFC octagon, Poirier has endured significant physical damage throughout his fighting career.

Now, ‘The Diamond’ wants to retire smartly. He hopes to avoid severe long-term injuries to ensure a happy and healthy retirement with his loved ones.

Poirier is a former interim lightweight champion, but unfortunately, failed to capture the undisputed title. He suffered submission losses against elite champions like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev, and Charles Oliveira in title fights. Despite these setbacks, the Louisiana native gracefully accepted his legacy as one of the greatest fighters without winning the undisputed championship.

Recently, former UFC champion Israel Adesanya addressed this topic while predicting the BMF bout this weekend. Adesanya highlighted Poirier’s impressive resume, reminding everyone of his incredible career accomplishments despite not holding an undisputed championship belt. This Saturday, Poirier has the chance to claim his first BMF title after previously missing out during his loss to Justin Gaethje.

Adding to the emotional atmosphere, Poirier will make his final octagon walk accompanied by iconic New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne, creating unforgettable hometown energy. The UFC recently held the pre-flight presser, where the Louisiana crowd booed Max Holloway, one of the most loved fighters.

The BMF champion didn’t take that personally as he understood the respect and support the hometown fans have for Poirier. Following the presser, ‘The Diamond’ shared his excitement after receiving such appreciation.

I love it man, this is my people. Like I have been saying all week. The love has been crazy, I feel it’s real. I feel appreciated from the fans, from the company. Thank you all, it’s a dream come true. This is a kid living his dream.

Going into the fight, Poirier is the betting favorite due to his winning record over Holloway and the Hawaiian’s brutal knockout loss at UFC 318. Despite being 36 years old, the home-town hero certainly has the capability to hang with the best. Nevertheless, it would be interesting if a potential win could change DP’s mind about retiring from the sport.
