Last month at UFC 318, fans witnessed the emotional retirement of Dustin Poirier after his loss to Max Holloway. The brutal five-round war ended with Holloway victorious, bringing closure to one of UFC’s most iconic rivalries. Poirier, who spent 13 years in the UFC, bid farewell, leaving behind a legacy as the ‘Diamond’ of the lightweight division.

At 36, Poirier had no desire to continue fighting, as money was never the reason he stayed committed. The UFC recently removed Poirier from its official roster, which made many longtime fans deeply emotional and nostalgic. Despite retirement, DP revealed plans to remain active within the UFC through commentary and analysis

Looking forward to getting back on the ESPN desk going to start focusing on that now.

Poirier has already worked as an ESPN analyst and even provided commentary during UFC events, showcasing his expert fight knowledge. Given his experience and charisma, Poirier can easily pursue a long-term career in UFC commentary and analyst work post-retirement.

Other UFC veterans like Daniel Cormier, Michael Bisping, and Anthony Smith have successfully transitioned into analyst roles after retiring from active fighting. Following his announcement, fans were hyped as they would get more opportunities to see Poirier in the UFC.

It won’t be surprising to see the veteran doing interviews with other fighters both outside and inside the Octagon. Apart from all that, the veteran also has plans to bulk up and get bigger as he won’t be needing to cut weight anymore.

Poirier is considered one of the most beloved fighters in UFC history for his humility, courage, and relentless fighting spirit. He shares mutual respect with nearly all of his opponents, with the exception of longtime rival Conor McGregor. Poirier has delivered countless unforgettable wars inside the Octagon, always putting on thrilling performances to entertain passionate fight fans worldwide.

Dustin Poirier is widely regarded as one of the greatest UFC fighters to never win an undisputed title, despite boasting an extraordinary career. He fell short in his interim title unification bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242, losing via third-round submission. Later, Poirier challenged Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev for the lightweight belt and was submitted on both occasions.

Most recently, he fought Max Holloway for the BMF title for the second time but lost via unanimous decision. Despite these losses, Poirier’s legacy remains intact and is respected among other fighters. The fighter is also a family man; recently, his wife Jolie Poirier shared an Instagram post with a wholesome message.

I always dreaded the thought of you walking away from the sport that has shaped you into the incredible man you are today but as the weeks go by I’m so thankful for it all. The good, the bad, the ups, the downs, the accomplishments, the setbacks but most importantly the lessons we’ve learned along the way… You created a beautiful life for us and we have even more to look forward to….A true role model to so many especially our daughter & baby boy to come. Can’t wait to tell him what a legend dad is. Thank you for including me on this journey.
