It has been three years since Dwight Howard played in the NBA, and it looks like there is trouble in paradise for the former NBA champion. He has officially filed for divorce from his wife, Amber Howard, just hours after she made a series of explosive accusations against him during a live stream viewed by millions.

Despite being away from the league since 2022 , Dwight Howard still remains in the headlines from time to time. Undoubtedly, one of the greatest defenders to ever play the game, Howard has played in various teams during his 18-year career in the league and won the NBA Championship during his second stint with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

The 40-year-old was drafted by the Orlando Magic as the number one pick in the 2004 NBA draft. He led the club to the NBA Finals in 2009, beating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals before losing to Kobe Bryant‘s Lakers in the NBA Finals. Eventually, he went on to win his first and only NBA Championship with James during his time with the Lakers.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year was elected twice into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame this year as an individual player and as a member of the Redeem Team. Howard was inducted into the Hall of Fame by his idol, Shaquille O’Neal, but has had several heated exchanges with the four-time NBA Champion.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Howard filed for divorce on Monday morning. The couple got married in January 2025.

It was stated that the relationship had reached a point where reconciliation was no longer possible. Howard has five children, but none with Amber Howard. The former NBA star demanded exclusive use of his Georgia mansion.

It all started when Amber made some serious allegations against the former Lakers center on a live stream. The broadcast quickly spread across social media platforms and reportedly attracted more than 2.5 million viewers.

Luciani – real name Amber – claimed that Child Protective Services (CPS) had intervened in their household, and the agency had removed Howard’s daughter from the home due to alleged substance abuse. She showed a bag containing a substance she referenced while making claims about alleged cocaine use by Howard. She said:

This is what I’m losing my marriage to.

As of now, Howard has not publicly responded to the accusations made by Luciani.
