In Short
  • Dwyane Wade criticized Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro for not energizing Miami's basketball scene.
  • The Miami Heat have struggled this season, finishing 10th and being swept in the playoffs.
  • Wade expressed concern over the lack of excitement surrounding the franchise and the city.

Former NBA star and Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade is the most successful player in Miami Heat history. Drafted as the number five pick in the 2003 NBA draft, Wade is widely regarded as one of the greatest shooting guards in NBA history.

In a career that spanned 16 years, Wade spent 13 years with the Heat, winning three NBA Championships to go along with numerous other accolades.

He called time on his career in 2019 and retired as Miami’s all-time leader in points, games played, assists, and steals. His achievements with the Heat earned him a statue outside the Kaseya Center.

Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro are the two big stars who were expected to play an important role in leading the Heat in the 2025-26 campaign. But the two players have been a shell of themselves this season. Neither player even made it to the All-Star Game this year.

Dwyane Wade made an appearance on “The Big Podcast” with former teammate Shaquille O’Neal and said there is nobody who is bringing energy to the city of Miami right now.

The city needs to be woken up. It’s not alive no more. When we was here it was buzzing in these streets. We been here last couple days ain’t nothing buzzing outside. I thought I was bout to stay here but I’m leaving cause ain’t no energy here. This city needs that person who can bring that energy here. No one’s here. When Shaq came, the culture shifted. I been here last couple of days, I’m sleepy.

Since the departure of Jimmy Butler, the Miami Heat have struggled to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference. They finished 10th and made it to the postseason by winning the play-in tournament. In the playoffs, they were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round.

NBA fans react to Dwyane Wade’s comments on “lack of energy in Miami”

The Heat were never expected to be playoff contenders this season, but the lack of energy in a club that has always been known for its culture is something that worries Wade. According to Wade, the lack of buzz and excitement in the franchise has reflected back onto the city as well.

Fans were quick to react to Wade’s criticism of the club across social media.

Wade may not have directly named Adebayo and Herro in his statements, but considering they are the top two players in the franchise, it is up to them to carry the torch forward.

Miami Heat extend their winning streak to four games

The Miami Heat recorded an impressive 128-120 victory over an in-form Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Friday night. The Hornets were up by three heading into the fourth quarter, but the Heat were at their absolute best in the final stretch of the game.

It was the Heat’s fourth consecutive win, and they are now in contention for a direct playoff qualification as they are tied with the Philadelphia 76ers, who are in sixth place. The Heat sit at seventh in the Eastern Conference standings with a 35-29 record. Meanwhile, the Hornets saw their record drop to 32-32 as they find themselves in 10th place in the standings.

Herro and Adebayo led from the front on Friday night. Herro scored a game-high 33 points to go along with nine rebounds and nine assists, while the Heat center posted a double-double as he recorded 24 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists.

With Joel Embiid struggling to play consecutive games and Paul George still suspended for the 76ers, the Heat have a good chance of breaking into the top six. They are scheduled to take on the top-seeded Detroit Pistons at home on March 8.
