Dwyane Wade and LeBron James

Dwyane Wade and LeBron James had one of the strongest one-two punches in the NBA when they were teammates on the Miami Heat. But the chemistry of their long-standing relationship is very different in 2025. Wade is retired from the NBA, whereas James is going strong at the age of 40 for the Lakers. Notably, Wade took a subtle swipe at James regarding his initial tweets about his son, Bronny James.

As per Wade, it is none other than James who has brought immense criticism and negativity around his son Bronny. Wade sat down with former NBA player Carmelo Anthony on the 7 PM in Brooklyn Podcast and spoke on this matter. He claimed that LeBron James’ statement that Bronny is better than the other youngsters was where the hateful comments about Bronny began.

He cited a March 6, 2023, post by the Lakers star on X in which James stated, “Man Bronny is definitely better than some of these cats I’ve been watching on league pass today.” At that point, Bronny was in high school. Ultimately, Wade succeeded in managing to properly balance both views on one of the most contentious issues in the NBA right now.

Wade said that, as a father, he recognized James‘ urge to “crash out” over his son. However, he was not exempt from criticism for inciting the media frenzy surrounding Bronny, in which Stephen A. Smith participated.

His bond with James allowed him the trust to call out his former teammate for his part in the public spat. He also admitted that he would have stepped up to Smith if he had been in a similar circumstance.

The Stephen A. Smith-LeBron James feud has garnered attention in and beyond the NBA community. Fans and past players have taken sides, with James’ former teammate Dwyane Wade being the most recent to speak out on the topic. According to TMZ, Wade chooses to side with James instead of Smith in this continuing feud.

I love both guys, I had a conversation with Stephen A about it and I told him… I would have walked up on him the same way. This is all love and sports.

Dwyane Wade said

With Smith repeatedly addressing this issue, many expected an answer from the Lakers star, too. However, James might disregard the entire thing. Only time will tell how the issue plays out in the coming days.

Dwyane Wade had a bold LeBron James take

In the very same interview with TMZ, Dwyane Wade went on to praise the Los Angeles Lakers superstar towards the end. With LeBron James continuing to defy all odds, it is evident that the ‘King’ will have a statue made for him once he retires from the sport. In addition, Wade had an intriguing idea as to where James’ statue should be placed.

He deserves one right here in New York, in front of the NBA offices.

Dwyane Wade told TMZ

There’s no disputing that James is one of the best basketball players of all time, and his longevity and consistent dominance make him a true generational talent. However, when James retires, he will undoubtedly be honored with a statue.
