The Chicago Cubs went head-to-head with the St. Louis Cardinals this Friday. Zaya Wade, the daughter of NBA icon Dwyane Wade threw the first pitch of the Chicago Cubs’ game at the Wrigley Field.
The Cubs Instagram handle posted a video of Zaya Wade making the pitch followed by a hug from Clark, the team’s mascot. The video was captioned, “Zaya Wade is in the building.”
While the internet continued to throw shade over what shined, Zaya Wade’s family had been her constant support. Dwyane Wade commented on the post, “Them Wades” with a fire emoji. On the other hand, Dwyane Wade’s eldest son Zaire Wade commented, “hood“. Dahveon Morris, also showed support for his cousin as he left a “That’s tuff” comment on the post.
Dwyane Wade is known for his time in Miami with the Heat and is revered in the city. However, the Chicago blood runs deep in the Wade family since Dwayne Wade is a Chicago native. It was widely appreciated by the sweet gesture from the MLB team when they selected the 17-year-old to throw the first pitch.
Dwyane Wade and Laura Ricketts were the reason for Zaya’s Pitch?
After people saw Zaya Wade pitching at the Chicago Cubs’ game, they started guessing the reason for the surprising choice. There were speculations that it was because of the distant business partnership between Dwyane Wade and Laura Ricketts.
Last year, Chicago Sky sold 10% of its shares to a bunch of investors. Both Laura Ricketts and Dwyane Wade were a part of the ownership group Chicago Sky sold their shares to. The investment provided the team with a new valuation of $85 million that leaped them up to second in the WNBA, right behind Seattle Storm.
However, all were only theories. The actual reason for Zaya Wade being the choice for the pitch was not known. Nonetheless, the Cubs won the match against the Cardinals with a score of 3-1.
