Late basketball star Kobe Bryant and late world-famous rapper Tupac Shakur had not much in common. Their lives were more like night and day. However, they had the same will to win in their respective fields. Both shared the same hardworking mentality and approach towards whatever they did. In addition, they made others around them better.
Notably, rapper E.D.I. Mean recently touched upon this matter involving the two and made a bold claim regarding Tupac Shakur’s mom, Afeni Shakur, about the time she saw Bryant play for the first time on the court. E.D.I. Mean was formerly with Tupac in Outlawz and had a good bond with the late rapper and his late mom at that time.
Rest in peace to Tupac’s mother. One day we were sitting down watching the Lakers, I think it was during the playoffs, and Kobe was doing what he do, going off, and she sat back there, and I’ll never forget this, she said, ‘That boy reminds me of my son.’
E.D.I Mean said on Byron Scott’s Fast Break podcast
Mean went on to claim that at that time, he did not understand why Tupac’s mom compared him to Bryant. But as time went on, he clearly understood why she made such a statement. Bryant went on to be a huge success (just like Tupac in the music industry) in the NBA, winning multiple titles and MVP honors with the Los Angeles Lakers.
It’s also important to note that Mean has always been a huge Los Angeles Lakers fan in addition to being a Kobe Bryant fan. So he used to always pop up for the Lakers’ matches whenever they used to play in Los Angeles. That’s how Tupac Shakur’s mom, Afeni, attended the match in the first place.
Mean also claimed that Tupac had a relentless working approach towards anything he did. He made others around him better, similar to Bryant, who shares this same quality in the NBA, making his teammates better on and off the court. No wonder Afeni saw something in Bryant that day that nobody did – something to this day that always leaves rapper E.D.I. Mean stunned.
E.D.I. Mean raved about the late legendary Kobe Bryant on a recent podcast
Although Michael Jordan and LeBron James are always involved in the GOAT debates, the legendary late Kobe Bryant is also another name that always comes to the minds of the NBA community. His ambition to be the best, even when things were not going his way, was his greatest strength. In a recent podcast, Rapper E.D.I. Mean chimed in on the greatness of Bryant and the impact he left on the world.
Well, Kobe was, um, we all know he wore his emotions on his sleeve, and he wanted it bad man… You just saw somebody that absolutely wanted to be great, you know, loved what he did, and you started to hear the stories about how maniacal he was about winning.
E.D.I. Mean told Byron Scott’s Fast Break podcast

Bryant had a fierce attitude and approach towards the game as well as his teammates. He did not shy away from speaking his mind whenever he felt that anything was not going his way. To support this, he did not back away from calling his dear friend and teammate, Shaquille O’Neal, overweight and blasting him to get back to fitness. This showcased the Mamba mentality he had through and through.
Fans show love to Kobe Bryant’s daughter for starring in a recent Nike Ad
