Cam Skattebo was on course to have a stellar rookie season with the New York Giants. His energy, drive, and mindset were important for them as they looked to turn their fortunes around.

Now they have to find another spark from the running back room after the fourth round pick dislocated his ankle during their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The home field fans, infamous for their hostility towards opposing teams, showed class when they gave Skattebo a standing ovation as he was carted off the field.

Since it was a delicate injury, the Giants took the sensible decision to complete his surgery in Philadelphia. They booked him into the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and his surgery was completed on time.

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane revealed that Cam Skattebo was visited by his team personnel and one other person not affiliated with the Giants.

Cam Skattebo had a surprise visitor at Penn Presbyterian on Monday: Eagles Do-it-all Chief of Security Dom DiSandro, who dropped off pizza and cheesesteaks for the Giants rookie while he was still at the Philly hospital after dislocating his ankle on Sunday.

Football fans know Dom ‘Big Dom’ DiSandro as the person who got into a scuffle with then San Francisco 49ers star Dre Greenlaw. Subsequently, he was banned from the sidelines for the next game and incurred a fine.

However, his good side also came to the fore when he identified and banned the rowdy Eagles fan who harassed Green Bay Packers fans at Lincoln Financial Field. Now, this gesture towards an opposing team’s player will only go on to change fans’ perception of him.

Cam Skattebo thanks Philadelphia for taking care of him

Usually, Philadelphia is not somewhere opposing sports teams want to play. Their fans are extremely passionate about their sports teams and do not bother about anything when going after opposing athletes.

However, they do have a human side, and it was evident with their show of support to a young, passionate athlete in Cam Skattebo. The Giants’ running back acknowledged them with a post on X.

The 23-year-old thanked the doctors and staff of Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for doing their best to fix his ankle. He also thanked Philadelphia for taking care of him in the best way possible.

Cam Skattebo then reiterated that he will be back to show what he is capable of. Now, after he gets released, he will be resting and recovering with the 2026 season in mind.

Giants’ running game might suffer due to lack of options

Without Cam Skattebo barreling down the field, the New York Giants’ offense will start to look predictable and one-dimensional. They do have Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary, but they are not as intimidating as their rookie was.

On top of that, there are not a good deal of confidence-inspiring options in the free agent market. There is an option to trade for another running back on an expiring contract.

But at this stage of the season, and with teams knowing the franchise is in need, it could result in a situation where they might have to fork out a bit more than needed.

Head coach Brian Daboll needs to make a call on whether the existing group is good enough to handle the load until the end of the season. His decision will have an impact on the offense from here on out.
