Philadelphia Eagles’ fans love CJ Gardner-Johnson because of the passion he brings to the game, but it also keeps them on the edge. The Philly natives know very well that the CJGJ tends to lose his head, which makes him a soft target for the opposition.

FedEx Field in Washington bore witness to every possible emotion from Gardner Johnson. He picked off Jayden Daniels, then blew the coverage, awarding the Commanders their opening touchdown, and mouthed off to some of the Washington players, receiving multiple warnings (unsportsmanlike conduct).

The first one took place deep into the first half. After Zack Baun forced a Commanders fumble (fourth of the game), Gardner-Johnson made sure to rub it in the opposing player’s face. However, it’s the second unsportsmanlike conduct that became headline material.

During a commercial break in the second half, the Commanders and Eagles players were at each other’s throats, and at the center of it were Washington wide receiver Dyami Brown and CJGJ.

The cameras caught Brown throwing an uppercut at the Eagles’ safety, which knocked his helmet off. The referee was right next to them and showed a flag to CJ Gardner-Johnson for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Naturally, the situation became heated until the Eagles staff had to remove the 27-year-old and force him to head for the locker room. The banter did not end there as the crowd booed Gardner-Johnson while he was walking toward the tunnel.

After CJGJ reached the edge of the entrance, he flashed two birds (middle fingers) at the crowd as a parting gift.

The game ended in a close 33-36 defeat after Daniels hit Jamison Crowder for a touchdown in garbage time. However, the day wasn’t over for Gardner-Johnson, who picked up his cell phone and wrote on X.

Respectfully got kicked out for nothing, I play with passion and fire!! Guys was chirping all day what u expect !!

There is merit to the former Saints and Lions DB’s claims. Right before Brown punched him in the helmet, he said something to the wideout that the camera microphone didn’t pick up. Gardner-Johnson must have said something nasty to the referee because he overlooked Brown, who threw a right hook and ejected him instead.

The moment undeniably got the better of CJGJ. He finished the day with 1 combined tackle and 1 interception for seven yards of gain. Gardner-Johnson in 2024, has 58 combined tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 10 pass deflections, and 4 interceptions.
