Cornerbacks like smack talk, but there are only a handful who can back their banter up and even deliver a punch or two. Philadelphia Eagles veteran CB Darius Slay undeniably falls into that category.

On Sunday, Slay showed he is not afraid to take on a man almost twice his size on the gridiron. A video from the Eagles’ end zone surfaced on social media, documenting a brawl involving Slay.

Pittsburgh Steelers six-foot-seven, 264-pound tight end Darnell Washington can be seen pushing Darius Slay through the end zone and into the guardrail behind the goal line.

Even after the referee blew the whistle, neither let go of the other, and Slay lost his cool. The 33-year-old threw a right air hook, aimed at Washington’s facemask, and then went for another.

Despite the mismatch, the all-pro defensive back did not back down. Eventually, the entire Eagles and Steelers cavalry barged in to have a piece of the action.

The referee did not penalize Darius Slay

It took a moment for the officials to calm the situation down and break up the chaos. Usually, they show penalty flags in these sorts of situations, but this was an exception. They did not show a single penalty flag to any of the players.

The video confirmed Slay throwing a few punches. On any other night, the referee would eject him from the game, but that wasn’t the outcome. What’s more baffling is that the end zone official was right next to Slay and Washington when they started the fight.

Now that the video is out, it leaves the door open for future punishment for Darius Slay. The NFL committee has been ruthless while dealing out fines to players in the last few years. Even harmless tackles don’t evade the peering eyes of the committee members.

If Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco can receive a 45k fine for a routine challenge on a Los Angeles Chargers player, then it will be a massive shocker if they let Slay go unpunished. Then again, they might overlook it, so it’s hard to predict what course of action they would take.

Philadelphia Eagles take a massive step towards NFC No. 1 seed

Nick Sirianni’s Eagles were slight favorites to win over their local Pennsylvania rivals, the Steelers. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw 25 completions for 290 yards, two passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. Running back, Saquon Barkley carried the ball 19 times for 65 yards. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith caught 11 passes for 109 yards and scored one touchdown, while AJ Brown caught 8 for 110 yards and one touchdown.

The win improved the Eagles record to 12-2, which is the same as the NFC North’s Detroit Lions. However, unlike the Lions, who lost earlier in the night against the Buffalo Bills, the Eagles are on a 10-game winning streak. Their final three games are all against NFC East rivals, the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Giants, on the final day.
