Running back Cam Skattebo, along with fellow rookie Jaxson Dart, has given the New York Giants the spark they needed after struggling early on this season.

After a disastrous run of games with veteran Russell Wilson leading the line, the franchise gave in to fans’ demands and elevated the young signal caller, hoping they did not make a mistake.

It turned out to be a great move, as the team rallied around the Ole Miss star to win two games against stellar opposition. In the second of those games against the Philadelphia Eagles, he celebrated the win in style with Skattebo, after the latter dominated on the ground.

A close loss to the Broncos last week gave further hope that both rookies are pushing the franchise in the right direction. In Week 8, they traveled to Philadelphia with the hopes of continuing their winning streak against the defending Super Bowl champions.

That hope looked possible the way the away team fought back to level with the Eagles in the 1st quarter. After the latter took the lead again in the 2nd, the Giants started their march down the field.

With a little over 8 minutes left, in their attempt to confuse the Eagles’ secondary, Jaxson Dart threw a short pass down the middle aimed at his running back.

Eagles linebacker Zack Baun ensured tackled Cam Skattebo and deflected the pass. However, as they came down to the ground, the latter’s right ankle got caught underneath Baun.

Medical personnel were called over, and they placed a protective boot on his ankle, which seemed to have snapped. As he was carted away, the Philadelphia Eagles fans, often known for their hostility, stood up and gave Skattebo a standing ovation.

Jaxson Dart left shocked after understanding Cam Skattebo’s situation

When Cam Skattebo lay on the field, the offensive line frantically called out the medical staff to attend to him. As they saw his ankle lay sideways, it dawned upon them that their teammate was about to miss the season.

Under no circumstances does an NFL player wish to see an opponent or teammate go through such a horrific injury. Most of the players in white and blue were seen kneeling and praying for their running back.

Some veterans were consoling some of the younger players, who might not have witnessed such an injury. Then there was Jaxson Dart, who was seemingly in a state of shock.

He kept yelling expletives as he walked away from the place of injury, and then kneeled, continuing to yell out his frustrations. The last person he wanted to suffer such a difficulty was his brother-in-arms.

It seems that the injury impacted the rookie QB and the Giants, as they struggled against their opponents. Dart even was stone-faced when exchanging jerseys with Eagles superstar and former Giants running back Saquon Barkley.

Cam Skattebo to undergo surgery in Philadelphia

New York is at most a couple of hours from Philadelphia. Therefore, it would be fine if the Giants took their injured running back to a hospital in that area.

It would be sensible, as transfer from the hospital to Cam Skattebo’s residence would be seamless. However, it seems the extent of his injury is a bit serious for them to avoid that option.

As per Ian Rapoport, the Giants have decided to schedule a surgery for their running back at a hospital in Philadelphia. That is possibly the best way to stabilize his leg before he is transported to his residence.

There has been no official announcement about his status this season, but considering how his ankle was dangling from his leg, Giants fans might have to wait until next year to see him run on a field again.
