- The Philadelphia Eagles traded for wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers, giving up a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
- Wicks signed a one-year contract extension worth $12.5 million, raising questions about AJ Brown's future with the team.
- Fans expressed mixed reactions, with concerns over Wicks' performance history and implications for the Eagles' receiving corps.
The Philadelphia Eagles had AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith as their leading wide receivers when they won Super Bowl LIX impressively.
The two wideouts, along with superstar running back Saquon Barkley, part-time receiver/running back Kenneth Gainwell, and tight end Dallas Goedert, were enough for QB Jalen Hurts to embarrass the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Last season, though, the unit was not as effective, leading to some uncomfortable situations throughout the season. Most notably, it has left AJ Brown on the verge of leaving the team.
The superstar receiver was frustrated by the predictable schemes. Along with the tendency to allow Hurts to do whatever he wanted made matters worse.
The Eagles rectified the situation by first firing offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. Then, despite the interest in Brown, they have not made a decision about his future yet.
On the other hand, they went out and added another receiver named Brown to their roster. That felt as if the franchise is preparing to move on from the Ole Miss alum.

This was a major addition for the organization, as unlike Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, Wicks is a fair bit younger, which means he can become a mainstay in Philadelphia for a while.
Eagles trading for Dontayvion Wicks confuses fans
When fans noticed Adam Schefter’s tweet, the first reaction was that this might be the final nail in the coffin for AJ Brown’s future with the Eagles.
On the other hand, they were not sure about the team handing a receiver a $12.5 million contract, especially since he hasn’t averaged 500 yards a season in his short career. Check out examples of those confused reactions below.

Wicks is a good addition who can make a difference when he gets enough targets. Not comparable to Brown, but a very good receiver.

Dontayvion Wicks might be the long-term answer the Philadelphia Eagles hope he will be. GM Howie Roseman is known to be a shrewd operator who constantly thinks about extending the team’s competitive window. But with that comes certain sacrifices as well.
Emmanuel Acho asks Eagles to own up to the truth after Dontayvion Wicks trade
After this latest trade confused fans, Emmanuel Acho was not confused and knew exactly what GM Howie Roseman was doing.

Howie, just do it already. You’ve acquired Dontayvion Wicks, I love it… You are not acquiring a WR3 and giving them 12.5 million dollars. It’s not just happening.
Emmanuel Acho said on X
The former linebacker pointed out that WR3s do not get that sort of money unless they are being looked at as a WR2. Since DeVonta Smith held that designation in the past, it is clear that he will move up to WR1.

But you don’t pay a WR3 12.5 million dollars a year.. so let’s talk about what it really means 👀👀 pic.twitter.com/orFF0ikjWs
At this point, Acho asked Roseman to stop teasing Eagles’ fans and just trade AJ Brown away, as he has been trying to do all this while.
